Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival

October 12 – 18, 2024

Wallkill River Center for the Arts (WRCA) is offering a newly reorganized festival this year with a community oriented week of painting, events and prizes set in the glorious Hudson Valley autumn landscape.  You don’t have to paint everyday, but there are prizes offered at all of the locations!  Total Purse $1,600

Saturday, October 12, 2024 Check-in and Canvas Stamping Sat. Oct. 12, 2024 9:00 am Sugar Loaf Fall Festival, NY

Saturday, October 12, 2024  Quick Draw 10:00-1:0o pm – in the charming hamlet of Sugar Loaf during their Fall Festival. The Quick Draw is a 2 hour painting competition where painters start with blank canvases at 10:00 am and present finished work by 12:00.  It’s harder than you might think!  Artwork will be displayed for the public and there will be judging and prizes.  First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100 presented by Whelan Family Fund, Sugar Loaf Chamber of Commerce, Day Seckler and Hill-N-Dale Abstracters.

Children can compete for gifts and ribbons for free in the youth category!  Bring your own materials or use our watercolor and paper.

Registration Information

This opportunity is open to the public and all artists who apply will be automatically accepted into the festival.  Painters will receive a welcome packet, swag and painter’s badge.  Registered artists are eligible for all prizes and activities for the week, including the Quick Draw ($15 value), location prizes and painting demonstrations.   There is no jurying process this year.  Registration is $60 ($55 WRCA Members).

There is space for 30 artists to participate in two exhibits for an additional hang fee of $20.   There will be an exhibit at Garnet Health Medical Center from October 18, 2024 to January 1, 2025 with a catered reception on Friday, October 18th from 4:00-7:00 pm.  Festival artists may also submit a mini work (5″x7″ or smaller) to the “Small Works” exhibit at Wallkill River Center for the Arts which will be on display from November 1 – December 15, 2024.  Art in-take will be Wednesday, October 16, 2024 10:00-5:00 pm.  All Art work will be picked up at WRCA Gallery Friday – Sunday, January 3-5th.  WRCA will collect a 30% commission on all sales at paint-out events, awards ceremonies, receptions and exhibits.

Exhibit Terms

Garnet Health Medical Center exhibit will run from Friday, October 18th through January 1, 2025.  Paintings may not exceed 24″ in any direction.  Frames may not exceed 2″ per side (4″ total). Work must be framed and wired for hanging – there can be NO EXCEPTIONS and unframed work will not be accepted.  Work may be offered for sale; WRCA will collect a 30% commission on sales.   Reception Fri. Oct. 18, 2024 4:00-7:00 pm

Wallkill River Center for the Arts “Small Works” exhibit will be on display from November 1 – December 15, 2024.  Artists may drop-off a mini piece (5″x7″ or smaller).  Work must have a means to hang it on the back.  The preferred method is framed and wired, but due to the difficulty of hanging miniatures, we will also accept “key hole,” “dogs’ tooth,” wire loops,  D-rings, etc.  Work may be offered for sale; WRCA will collect a 30% commission on sales.  The reception for this exhibit will be Saturday, November 9, 2024 3:00-5:00 pm.

Art in-take will be Wednesday, October 16, 2024 2:00-4:00 pm.  All Art work will need to be picked up at WRCA Gallery Friday – Sunday, January 3-5th or it will be considered a charitable donation to the organization.

Wallkill River Center for the Arts will collect a 30% commission on all sales at paint-out events, awards ceremonies, receptions and exhibits.  WRCA will collect sales tax and make the necessary filings for all sales.  Artists must fill out all of the required forms including a W-9 or they will not be eligible for prizes or able to offer their work for sale.
