Artist Statement:

In this body of work, I draw inspiration from Mary Oliver’s poem, “Sleeping in the Forest,” where she alludes to the bustling activity of “Small Kingdoms” at work during the night. This poetic imagery serves as a metaphor for the delicate interplay between humanity and nature. Much like Oliver’s portrayal, my work delves into the sublime and peaceful merging of boundaries, inviting viewers to contemplate moments of communion, impermanence, and metamorphosis.

I find my inspiration in the rich traditions of ancient art, medieval bestiaries, and 18th- century natural science histories. The heart of my studio practice lies in the techniques of drawing and printmaking, encompassing drypoints, etchings, monotypes, and experimental collages. By exploring the coexistence of our “Small Kingdoms,” my art serves as a mirror to the intricate tapestry of our existence in this tragic, mysterious, and beautiful world.
