Friday evening, July 10
6:00 – 8:30 pm
$75, $65 Members (includes materials and firing fees)
This handbuilding ceramics pottery night will concentrate on pinch pot vases. Participants will work with a mid-range white cone 5/6 clay, which will be oxidation fired in an electric kiln.
For this evening clay event students will create pinch pot vases demonstrating at least three techniques of pinch pot methods. Decorative finishing methods, including carving, sculpting, impressed designs, and sprig slabs, will be taught, along with final decoration using underglaze.
All completed works will be fired in the instructor’s kiln, then clear glazed. Finished pieces may be collected at the art center upon completion. Please note that pickup timing may vary depending on kiln load requirements and the duration of bisque and glaze firing cycles.
All materials will be provided!
Jodi Doster has been teaching science and art 18 years at Bristol Bay Borough Middle/High School in Nanek, Alaska. She is also an Adjunct Professor for the University of Alaska Fairbanks where she teaches biology and art.
