4/11/2024 Fabric Art Portrait with Designer & Artist Hoodie Crescent

April 11 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

$120.00 – $130.00

One day workshop

Thursday, April 11, 2024

10:00-3:00 pm

$130, $120 Members

Enjoy a day of stress free, playful, creativity with internationally recognized designer Hoodie Crescent.  Class starts with pencil doodles and sketches to work out your ideas.  You will simplify your image to a few lines and shapes which best capture your spirit and likeness.   The shapes of your portrait will be cut out in playful printed fabric and mounted on your background fabric as appliques and double-sided fuse brings your elements together.  Optional hand stitching can add detail and increased stability.  Challenge yourself to get creative with cut, color coordination and working in layers!

Hoodie Crescent will provide high-quality quilting fabrics from her own design line which is sold worldwide.    You will find that the printed fabric creates playful images with unexpected effects of depth and color combinations.  You will transform your drawing into fabric shapes to create your fabric art which will be mounted on stretched canvas, ready to hang.

All materials will be supplied… but bring a lunch for the mid-day break.

Artist Statement: “Most people say that my work is kitschy but modern and happy. Any art should reflect one’s life. If my efforts give rise to joyful thoughts, that is the greatest compliment. My creative passion includes original fabrics, vintage kimono fabrics, recycled products, paint, mixed media, layer work, applique, patchwork, sewing techniques, painting and drawing techniques! I am usually described as a fiber artist or mixed media artist.

I have been teaching classes for children, mainly in the summer, for five years. Incorporating art therapy programs into my teaching methods, which are tactile and hands-on, provides a sense of satisfaction that digital teaching methods cannot.”

Biography: Hoodie Crescent is an artist, fabric designer, graphic designer, illustrator, web designer, arts and crafts instructor and art therapy coach. She was born in rural Japan, Nagano, and grew up in Osaka, Japan. Crescent traveled to the United States many times and worked in both countries from 1975 until 1992. Crescent’s arts and crafts career evolved during her trade show days (2001-2016) where she created original craft patterns for fabric collections. Simplicity published and sold her aprons and bags for ten years.
