2023 HVPAF Quick Draw

QUICK DRAW COMPETITION

Oct. 9, 10:30am-1pm

Railroad Green Park, Warwick NY

Ready, Set, Paint!  The Quick Draw Competition is a 2-hour painting competition with prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places.

You must check in and bring your canvas for stamping between 10- 10:30a on Oct. 9th and paint between 10:30a and 12:30p.  Judging of framed artwork begins at 1pm.  Juried Artists and Painter’s Pass Artists are both eligible for prizes in this event. Open to all others for a fee of $15.

Kids 17 and under paint free (there will be special prizes for kids).

• 10am – Sign in Begins, canvases stamped. Once you have been signed in, you may go find a spot to paint.
• 10:30am – Whistle blows and painting begins.
• 10:30am – 12:15pm – HVPAF Staff will come around to talk, photograph, and otherwise check in.
• 12:30pm – Whistle blows, it’s time to frame! Bring your easel to the designated place to be set up and your artwork shown to our judges. HVPAF Staff will come and verify that your artwork has been stamped this morning. Please do not secure backing until someone verifies.
• 1:00pm – Judging begins. Feel free to mingle and walk away from your piece. Your artwork should speak for itself!
• By 2:00pm – Judging ends. Awards will be announced by HVPAF Staff.

Winning pieces can be left with HVPAF Staff for immediate display and to guarantee they remain as they were when awarded. All monetary prizes are awarded at the end of the HVPAF competition (Saturday October 14th). If a HVPAF Staff member has captured a picture of you working on your winning piece, expect it to go out in an email during the week.

What do I need to be in a quick draw competition?

Your Medium (Pastel, Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, etc)

Your Canvas (Canvas, Linen, Watercolor paper, pastel board, etc) Please note that your canvas must be plain. Toning your canvas is acceptable. Watercolor blocks must have individual sheets stamped.

Your Easel (Both important for you to get a good angle to paint with and to display at the end)

Your Frame (Finished plein air works in this competition must be framed to be judged. Please take care in not covering the backing immediately so that a HVPAF Staff member may verify you have been stamped this morning)

Your Tools (Brushes, water, paper towels, pencils, gloves, viewfinders, umbrellas, etc)

Yourself (Make sure you wear suitable clothing, have had a breakfast, and are ready to paint!)

Is this event separate from the HVPAF, you do not need to be registered with the HV Plein Air Festival to join or win prizes at this event. Additionally, if you wish to simply visit and view the wonderful artworks being created, it’s free! You may even find an artwork that you love so much that you want to purchase from an artist.
