Frame Loom Weaving Workshop with Courtney Salerno

This workshop is a welcoming introduction to frame loom weaving where participants will create their own handwoven wall hanging. Students will be guided from start to finish while having the freedom to follow their own creative process, with no specific design pattern to follow. We will explore color, texture, and fiber choice while learning several weaving techniques, including tabby weave, rya knots, rya loops, soumak weave, and pile weave. Each participant will have the opportunity to create a unique piece that reflects their own artistic style.
All materials are provided for the workshop, including a frame loom, weaving tools, and access to a curated selection of fibers. Fibers are intentionally sourced from small women-owned businesses and local yarn shops throughout the Hudson Valley and tri-state region. A variety of hanging dowels will also be available to choose from, including wood dowels, driftwood, and copper pipe. At the end of class, participants will have the option to purchase their loom and weaving tools from the instructor if they would like to continue weaving on their own!
