Portraits are forever. They capture the likeness of the human subject they are portraying. It may be through a visual similarity with the sitter or the ephemeral essence of the subject. Portrait artists bring all kinds of intangible aspects to their work. The fact that we can look at a painting done hundreds of years ago and feel a kinship with the sitter, in our contemporary moment, is a testament to the power of portraiture.
