SUMMARY:Emily Nomer: Night Vision
DESCRIPTION:Night Vision is a solo exhibit of work by Emily Nomer which was created between 2022-2023 in response to a period of deep loss.  “Creating beauty is both a restorative act\, and an end in itself\,” says the artist. “My process is time-consuming and repetitive; the compositions rely on proportion and balance\, with an ever-changing ‘buffet’ of motifs as prime ingredients. Color palettes suggest the mood.”  Nomer relays\, “Victor Hugo said\, ‘To love beauty is to see light.’ I aimed to create beauty from darkness.” \nThe gallery is open to the public Fridays\, Saturdays\, and Sundays from 12:00-5:00 pm or by appointment. \nArtists Reception Saturday\, March 9\, 2024 3:00-5:00 pm.  Receptions are always free and open to the public. \nEmily Nomer worked for forty-plus years in the design business\, owning a company designing and manufacturing one-of-a-kind furniture for architects and designers in New York City. But she has been a visual artist since she could first hold a crayon. She holds a BA from Vassar College in Classical Greek\, and an MA in the same from the University of London. In 2016 she was finally able to attend art school\, and earned an MFA from the SUNY New Paltz. In 2022 she retired from her business and has devoted herself to her art full-time.  Nomer’s diverse artistic influences include Hellenistic pottery\, the Pattern and Decoration Movement\, Bauhaus designers and Russian constructivists\, amongst others.

SUMMARY:Nansi Lent: Enigmatic Devotions
DESCRIPTION:“Enigmatic Devotions” is a solo exhibit by Rhinebeck artist Nansi T. Lent.  Lent’s current work is about the collective unconscious\, the evolution of language and the urge to write. Over time the artist has invented a symbolic language that borrows from ancient symbols but represents no language system but her own\, hybrid\, created one\, that continues to evolve with each new piece she makes. The work is meant to be read as language that has no signified meaning other than the viewers interpretation. “Mine is a contemplative practice where I explore the use of ancient symbols to evolve a new paradigm. It is a search for modern abstraction\, rooted in ancient gestures of language\,” the artist explains. \nNansi Lent holds a BA from Boston College in Studio Art and a Masters in Visual Arts Administration from NYU. Painting for decades\, she has exhibited widely in New York’s Hudson Valley region and beyond including The Katonah Museum of Art\, The Woodstock Artists Association and Museum\, The Coral Springs Art Museum in Florida\, Goggleworks in Reading\, PA.\, The New York Public Library\, The Starr Library inRhinebeck and in numerous co-ops and private galleries. Her work is held in several private collections. In 2018\, she founded Womenswork.art\, a gallery in Poughkeepsie. She is an Active Member of the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum. \nThe exhibit is on view March 1\, 2024 – April 28\, 2024 \nThe gallery is open to the public Fridays\, Saturdays\, and Sundays from 12:00-5:00 pm or by appointment. \nArtist Reception Saturday\, March 9\, 2024 3:00-5:00 pm.  Receptions are always free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:April 27th Artist Talk with Emily Nomer & Nansi Lent
DESCRIPTION:April 27th 2024 \n3pm – 5pm \nJoin artists Nansi Lent and Emily Nomer for an afternoon of intimate discussion about their solo exhibits\, ENIGMATIC DEVOTIONS and NIGHT VISION. \nAttendees will enjoy time in the gallery as a group as each artist discusses their work and their inspirations\, the genesis of the works in the exhibit\,and their artistic process. A Q&A session with each artist will follow.\nIf you haven’t seen the exhibit yet\, we suggest arriving early to have some time to view the works before the gallery talks begin at 3PM. \nPeople always ask “How long does it take to make one of your pieces?” I don’t think I can answer that\, but I will tell you how I go about it. I hope you will come and bring your questions! – Emily Nomer \n  \nI am a ruminator with constant on-going internal dialog. I feel very connected to global humanity in that fact. Beginning mediators sometimes see this for the first time. My artwork is an outgrowth of that reality and my intention is to capture that energy\, express it and turn it into prayer. I look forward to exploring this topic and sharing my process at my upcoming Artist Talk. – Nansi Lent \nGallery hours are Friday – Sunday\, noon to 5 PM. \nThis exhibit runs through Sunday\, April 28. \nThe gallery talk and gallery visits are free and open to the general public.\nGoodwill donations are always welcome. \n  \n \nEmily Nomer worked for forty-plus years in the design business\, owning a company designing and manufacturing one-of-a-kind furniture for architects and designers in New York City. \n  \n \nNansi Lent holds a BA from Boston College in Studio Art and a Masters in Visual Arts Administration from NYU.
