SUMMARY:Botanical Landscapes with Roberta Rosenthal
DESCRIPTION:Thursday mornings\, 10 am – 1 pm \nJune 4\, 11\, 18\, 25 \n$135\, $125 members \n  \nBotanical Landscapes – Explorations into a variety of watercolor mediums \nIn this class\, we will be working with water media using watercolor pencils\, watercolor pigment\, gouache on paper or acrylic gouache on canvas. Artist’s choice of medium.\n\nWork with live plants and photos of landscapes.\n  \nSuggested materials list (bring what you have): \nRecommended Watercolor pencils:\nCaran D’ache Supracolor II Aquarelle Soft pencils with a full range of 120 colors. Start with a basic set of 12 – 24 colors and then decide if you want to get more. Bluish Pale is a great blending color\, warm and cool grays can offer some shadows without it being dirty graphite. \nTube watercolors and/or Gouache: \nyellow light or lemon yellow\, Burnt Sienna\, Winsor red\, cadmium yellow deep or Indian yellow\, Vermillion\, Permanent rose or Quinacridone rose\, Quinacridone Violet or Magenta\, French ultramarine (deep)\, Cobalt blue\, Cerulean blue or Cinerous Blue\, Hookers Green or Sap green. Winsor Newton designer gouache Rose Tyrian for bright cool pink/magenta. For darkest greens Holbein Shadow Green W 279. A tube of M. Graham white Designers gouache for adding hairs and veins. \nCareful with over painting with dense pigments which may destroy the luminosity of a hues and tones in painting. Brands: Sennelier\, Schminke\, Holbein\, M. Graham\, or Winsor Newton. A warm and a cool hue for each basic color works well. Yellow\, Red\, Blue and Brown. I occasionally use Paynes gray and lamp black \nFeathers are great for sweeping away any debris from erasing. Using the hand can add dirt or a thin layer of grease to the paper\, and this inhibits the paint. Use a piece of tracing paper or paper towel under your hands to protect the paper from body moisture/grease and to keep finished areas clean. Blue artists watercolor tape. Scissors\, single edge blade and emery board. \nPaper: \nBlock or individual sheets 12 x 16 Arches hot press for botanical subjects using watercolor pencils. If using individual sheets\, then a foam core board and artist’s watercolor tape all around for the paper to remain flat. If has backgrounds (landscape or still life) I prefer Arches cold press for color pencil and watercolor combined. Hahnemuhle hot press is excellent but more expensive. \nAdditional Materials: \n.03 lead Mechanical pencil Kohinoor Technograph 5611 C or graphite pencil HB lead and good technical sharpener and a rubber cement pick up rubber. \nTracing paper my favorite is Borden Riley sheer trace parchment #90 \nGraphite Saral transfer paper or silver butter knife \nSmall disposable cups for mixing color\, fine water mister\, water dropper bottle\, paper towels. \nPorcelain Palette for watercolors\, round watercolor brushes to blend or paint with. My preference for brushes is Raphael kolinsky sable 8404 #0\, 1\, 2\, 4\, and 6 or 8 for backgrounds. They are hard to come by. Try for Da Vinci\, Escoda or another available brand. \nPortfolio and tote bag to carry supplies. \n  \nFor over 40 years Roberta shared her expertise with hundreds of students as an instructor in both Botanical Art and Business Practices for Artists at the famed New York Botanical Garden and more recently locally at Wallkill River Center for the Arts\, Desmond Campus of Mount Saint Mary College\, Wurtsboro Art Alliance\, Catskill Art Society\, Ellenville Museum Library and Pine Bush Library. Her art is exhibited internationally\, collected by individuals and corporations. Roberta continues to travel finding unusual botanical specimens to paint or landscapes that she captures in plein air or sketches for future studio work. Her current home studio\, Squirrel’s Nest\, is located on top of Shawanga Mountain in Sullivan County\, New York with a view of the Hudson Valley.  \n\nREFUND AND CANCELLATIONS

SUMMARY:Create a Tree of Life Pendant with Janet Baskerville
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 13th \n11:00 am – 1:00 pm \n$50\, $45 Members (includes materials) \n  \nThis is the class you have been waiting for! Come out\, enjoy a warm relaxed atmosphere and learn how to make your own wire wrapped ‘Tree of Life’ pendant with gemstones. No special skills required but a basic knowledge of wire wrapping would be helpful. \nAll tools and supplies provided. \n  \nTree of Life – One of many definitions: \nThe Tree of Life commonly represents the interconnectedness of everything in the universe. It symbolizes togetherness and serves as a reminder that you are never alone or isolated\, but rather that you are connected to the world. The roots of the Tree of Life dig deep and spread into the earth\, thereby accepting nourishment from Mother Earth\, and its branches reach up into the sky\, accepting energy from the sun and moon. \n  \n \nJanet Baskerville\, Artist Statement: My ethnic heritage and experiences are my greatest influences.  I enjoy working three dimensionally\, as it is an intuitive process.  Jewelry is my passion and I like the tactile nature of combining various methods of construction\, such as forging metal\, stamping and etching metal\, wire wrapping and weaving\, beading\, resin casting and the inclusion of relic-like found objects and artifacts. I enjoy mixed-media collage and use paint\, paper\, fabric\, fibers\, resin\, wood and clay in my work as well. I am fascinated with the results when a combination of these materials and methods comes together in a completed piece to evoke a one of a kind ethnic feeling that tells a story. \nREFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY

SUMMARY:REMEMBER WHEN\, A National Exhibition Juried by Ransome
DESCRIPTION:Remember When\nA National Exhibition Juried by Ransome\nJune 27 – August 9\, 2026 \n\nCall for Artwork \nThis exhibit is a national call\, open to all U.S. artists 18 years of age or older. Artwork may range from realism to non-representational abstraction; 2D and 3D works in all media are welcome; size restrictions apply. \n\nDescription \nRemember When: Nostalgia is a powerful sentiment. We can experience it on a personal level\, a family level\, a cultural level\, a spiritual level. We invite you to submit images that speak to this theme. Let’s explore our pasts together as we look back at the times and experiences that shaped us as individuals and as a collective. \n  \nSubmissions due: May 7\, 2026 \nREMEMBER WHEN PROSPECTUS\n \n  \n\nMeet the JUROR: Ransome \n\nMy artwork centers on my African-American lineage\, which is traced back to sharecroppers of the American South who migrated to Northern cities along the East Coast. My pictorial narratives are personal\, yet the symbols I use are universal and interplay with larger social\, racial\, ancestral\, economic\, and political histories that inform our nation to this day. The history of my family is the history of black Americans\, which is the history of all of North America. \nIn my works\, I often combine acrylic paint with an array of found\, made\, and purchased papers. The materials I use are conceptual statements on this legacy of an often-overlooked portion of society that made something out of nothing. \nBoth my representational and abstract works incorporate a variety of symbols\, patterns\, and marks to create powerful images filled with the rhythmic properties of music that weave throughout my oeuvre. Born in a generation infused by soul and R&B music\, I grew up hearing rap music that freely sampled the music of my childhood\, mixing and recomposing these songs to create rhythms befitting to hip hop music. In my work\, my natural instinct is to paint and collage on the same surface\, applying the same spontaneity of hip hop deejays and the resourcefulness of rural quilters\, who use what is at hand\, assembling\, collaging\, and creating. \nWhile made of the energy of contemporary culture\, my work is also influenced by Abstract Expressionism and draws from the soulfulness of the quilts from the women of Gee’s Bend. For me\, there is a visual rhythm to layering these antipodes: found versus purchased objects\, figures versus abstract\, paint versus paper\, busy versus quiet. My work aims to imbue each piece with a lyrical yet authentic resilience borne of limited resources and frugality that speaks to the struggle and hope\, pain\, joy\, and soul of folks in the black community. \n– \nA graduate from Pratt Institute\, Ransome served as a tenured professor in the School of Visual Performing Arts at Syracuse University before retiring to pursue his dreams of being a studio artist. Nationally exhibited and collected by museums and private foundations\, Ransome received an MFA in Studio Arts from Lesley University and currently resides in the Hudson Valley. \n  \nImage: Ransome\, The Curse Of Ham\, acrylic and collage with table\, 50 x 72 in.\, 2025

SUMMARY:Fun with Fiber: Stitching\, Felting and Weaving with Jenny Torino
DESCRIPTION:Monday – Friday\, July 27 – 31 \n10 am – 12 noon \nGrades 2 – 6 \n$135 per student \n  \nJoin us for Fun with Fiber where students will discover stitching\, felting and weaving while creating their own unique fiber works during the week’s art projects. \n\nSession 1: Scrappy Plush Monster Hand Sewing Project \nLearn hand sewing skills and design a custom monster plush with fabrics scraps of fun textures and colors. Learn how to thread a sewing needle\, straight stitch\, whip stitch and sew buttons. Leave with a cute plushie. \nSession 2:  Felt Pennants \nAre you a fan of a band\, sports team\, school or town and want to express your creativity? Make a triangular felt pennant to decorate your walls by creating lettering\, a color scheme and pictures. Then cut your design from flat felt sheets and put your pennant together. You will design lettering and pictures then learn how to lay it out and attach to your pennant. \nSession 3: Wet Felt and watercolor Geodes \nGeodes are rocks that are plain on the outside and contain beautiful crystals and colors on the inside. We are going to make Geodes out felt sheets wool through a process called wet felting. You will learn all about where wool comes from\, what you can make with it. Next create a large watercolor geode using torn paper\, ink and watercolor. \nSession 4 and 5: Woven Dream Catchers \nLearn how to weave in the round with colorful yarns. Add hanging strings\, beads and feathers to make it a dream catcher. \n  \nAbout Jenny Torino: \nI am an interdisciplinary artist that primarily uses fibers such as felting wool\, textiles and paper to create felt sculptures and interactive spaces. I focus on the living ecosystem and patterns in nature that often get overlooked. I allow myself to work slowly\, leading to hyperfocus on shape\, form and color. Focusing on these details becomes a meditation. \nMy felted sculpture highlights the connection between artist & material and art & the ecosystem. Familiarity and intimate connection with every stage of wool production is part of my process. My work also involves supporting and building community by using materials from small farms and sharing knowledge of the felting process with the public. \n  \nSummer Art Scholarship Form \nREFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY \n

SUMMARY:Elizabeth Keithline: Puzzle
DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Keithline: Puzzle\nAugust 22 – September 27\, 2026 \n\nArtist Elizabeth Keithline presents Puzzle\, a solo exhibition of assemblage artworks using found paint and materials. \nPuzzle is a follow-up to Breaking Broken\, Keithline’s previous solo show\, which explored human tendencies toward self-destruction and fragmentation. Puzzle pivots to examine how people create system of order out of chaos\, how they solve problems and navigate life’s challenges.  \nThe show continues Keithline’s longstanding exploration of human self-extension through systems such as architecture\, technology\, cars\, and the modern built environment—especially as these systems relate to the natural world. \nIn addition to her solo show\, Keithline will jury a companion exhibition in WRCA’s main galleries titled Keep It Together\, featuring assemblage-based artwork that conveys a material and conceptual sense of solving and/or coping. \n  \nAbout the artist:\nElizabeth Keithline has been a weaver since the age of 14. In 1996\, she pioneered a unique sculpture technique: weaving heavy-gauge wire around large objects and then burning them out. Her artistic practice now includes painting\, public art\, and installation work. Keithline is fascinated by abstraction—how far ideas can stretch\, how many multiples of a single thought can be expressed\, and how viewers engage with abstraction as they perceive an idea and then carry it away with them. \nPuzzle marks Keithline’s 23rd solo exhibition and Keep It Together will be her 23rd juried or curated group show. She has exhibited widely across the United States\, with solo shows for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation\, ChaShaMa NYC\, Jane Street Art Center\, \n  \nOPENING RECEPTION\nSaturday\, August 22\, 5 – 7 pm \nPlease join us to meet the artist and view the works; light refreshments will be served. \n  \nThe WRCA galleries and art reception are always free and open to the public. \nGallery hours: Friday – Sunday\, 12 – 5 pm \n  \nImage: Elizabeth Keithline\, Stripe\, Brown\, Pink\, found paint and wood
