SUMMARY:8/27/24 Iona Marsh Plein Air with Laura Martinez-Bianco
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday August 27th (Rain Date August 28th) \n10am – 1pm \nat Iona Marsh/Bear Mt. State Park \n$50 per person\, $45 for members \nJoin me for a day of plein air painting\, all levels and abilities are invited. Artists are encouraged to work in any medium they are comfortable with. This class is not specifically about medium but rather about the concepts and techniques that are universal to Plein Air painting. \nBring your easel\, your painting supplies and a painting surface. Helpful to have a sketchbook\, paper and pencil. This will be a one day event so consider the size you will be working on. \nEach session will be 3 hours with a demo\, individual instruction and critique included. Please bring a snack\, water and a hat. \n \nI am drawn to landscapes\, capturing and preserving the views that have been seen over the years by so many. On location I work in pastels. I focus on that specific time of day. The time of day changes the light\, the color\, the atmosphere: it changes everything. Pastels afford me the use of pure pigment. The mark each pastel makes directly from my hand to the surface is exciting. In my studio I create with encaustic\, based on my Plein Air experiences. Working with molten wax and fire has energy and spontaneity. Whether in the studio or on site each painting is a challenge to record a moment in time. \nREFUND AND CANCEL

SUMMARY:Ward Lamb: Flowers from My Garden
DESCRIPTION:Solo exhibit of paintings by Ward Lamb\, on view September 6\, 2024 – October 27\, 2024. \nArtists Reception Saturday\, September 14\, 2024 5:00-7:00 pm. Receptions are always free and open to the public. \nThe gallery is open to the public Fridays\, Saturdays\, and Sundays from 12:00-5:00 pm or by appointment. \nArtist Statement \nFlowers have a primal meaning to Ward Lamb who sees them as transient and beautiful as so much of life is.  His paintings are rich in color and atmosphere\, painted from life. Lamb’s subjects come mostly from his garden\, and they suggest American-Impressionist imagery.  He works with the seasons as they are very important in his connection to nature.  In addition to flowers\, Lamb’s body of work includes many other subjects. \nBiography \nWard Lamb is a New York State native born in Syracuse\, New York.  He has been a prolific painter for the last 50 years. SUMMARY:Donna Prizzi: Floral Impressions
DESCRIPTION:Solo exhibit of works by Donna Prizzi on view  September 6\, 2024 – October 27\, 2024 \nThe gallery is open to the public Fridays\, Saturdays\, and Sundays from 12:00-5:00 pm or by appointment. \nArtists Reception Saturday\, September 14\, 2024 5:00-7:00 pm. Receptions are always free and open to the public. \nArtist Statement: \nIn the quiet life of inanimate objects\, seemingly still and motionless\, lives a story or narrative that can create a connection to our home\, family\, friends\, culture\, or customs.  It can elicit a visceral response that often invokes the senses.  Weather looking at a painting of food\, flowers\, or the humble objects that surround our daily lives\, we can find the subjective connection to a place\, a time\, or a moment.  As life impatiently careens forward and we are increasingly connected (or disconnected) by the labyrinth of technology\, painting the still life is a meditative process that connects me to the past\, present and future through the contemplative interpretation of its meaning\, its aesthetic form and its significance.  This show\, “Floral Impressions” is an expression of gratitude for the simple blessings and subtle beauty that exists in our everyday lives. \n  \n \n  \n

Her real education happened as an artist’s apprentice in SoHo section of NY where she worked in several artist’s studios until leaving the city for the beautiful farmlands North of the city and began teaching plein air classes in 2000\, and continues weekly to this day in Tampa Bay.  She founded a plein air school with an Arts and Agricultural mission based on the historic Hudson River School\, called the Wallkill River School of Art. It still exists today as a nonprofit arts organization with a mission of bringing cultural tourism to the Hudson Valley region through plein air painting workshops and events on local farms\, historic sites and open spaces. Joyce has won many prestigious awards for plein air painting\, and is a signature member of New York Plein Air Painters (NYPAP)\, and International Plein Air Painters (IPAP)\, and Pastel Society of Tampa Bay (PSTB). SUMMARY:09/2024 Beginning Watercolor with Alan Lewis
DESCRIPTION:Sundays\, 10am-12pm \nSeptember 8\, 15\, 22\, 29th \n$120 ($100 Members) ($90 to skip beginners day) \nThe first day of the months’ session is for anyone who is just starting out or needs more guidance. I would recommend that you attend if you’re a first time student of this class! \n\nThis beginning watercolor class will be focused on producing finished work.  I have noticed that I have learned best when following along painting with an artist\, so that is the approach this class will follow. We will produce a finished painting each week with a different subject\, and returning students are welcomed.  The approach will be to paint fast and loose\, to cover the basics of watercolor by doing them\, and hopefully to have some fun. The first day is for beginners who need to learn the starting techniques and the materials.\n\nIn the event of wonderful weather\, this class may go outside to paint! Be sure to bring sunscreen\, a sunhat\, or other item to protect you and make you comfortable.\n\n\nAlan Lewis has been painting in watercolor since 2013\, and usually paints every day.  His subjects vary from portraits to pets to landscapes\, and he enjoys painting plein air whenever possible.  His paintings are looser and more impressionistic\, rather than highly detailed\, and he has been most significantly influenced by the watercolor master Alvaro Castagnet.  A member of the Wallkill River School\, Goshen Art League\, Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters\, and Northeast Watercolor\, he has also recently been awarded for art done with the Friends of the Great Swamp.\n\nStudents will bring their own supplies.\nMinimum 3 Students.\n \n\n\n\nPaper- I would recommend Strathmore 300 (or better but a little more expensive 400) series\, cold press paper.\nBrushes – A beginner kit might have 1 #10 round\, one smaller brush for detail\, and one larger flat or map brush of about an inch. It is nice to have some different sizes\, but you don’t need expensive brushes to start.\nPaint – Avoid chalky mediums like Reeves. Tubes will be easier to work with than pans.\nPalette – A watercolor palette has many wells for your paint and space to mix colors.\nOther – Not really necessary in this class\, but will be useful at home- A hairdryer\, painters tape\, paper towels\, etc.\n\n\nREFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY

SUMMARY:10/05/2024 Intro to Printmaking Workshop with Jodi Doster
DESCRIPTION:October 5th \n1pm – 6pm \nAges 16+ \n$150\, $130 Members \nLearn the basics of printmaking in this afternoon workshop! Discover the importance of positive and negative space when designing your print. Sketch your designs and transfer them to your printing block for carving. This class is suitable for people aged 16+ since we will be using sharp cutting tools. \nIn printmaking\, students will make copies of an image that they have created from various sources of their choosing. They will then transfer the image and use carving on soft linoleum blocks or impressing the design in styrofoam\, or foam board and transfer the image onto a new surface. Students will use ink or paint to transfer images. Students will create an Andy Warhol style print using two to three linoleum cuts positive and negative carvings or multiple block method. Colored inks will be used when printing by utilizing a registration method. We will cover the different techniques and tools used to create prints including gelli-plates to create prints that can be used for collage\, card making\, and art notebooks. \nIncludes all materials. \n \n \nMy name is Jodi Doster and I spent 21 years teaching science and art at Bristol Bay Borough Middle/High School in Naknek\, Alaska. I also was an Adjunct Professor for the University of Alaska Fairbanks BBC teaching biology and many art classes including watercolor\, drawing\, and ceramics. My teaching philosophy is a hands-on approach utilizing demonstration then working alongside students to create original pieces. I find working alongside students while discussing my process and thoughts helps students if they are stuck. I provide guidance to help students with learning new techniques and developing their own style. I am influenced by science and nature in my own artwork. I love color and have been inspired by the impressionism artists. I have been so inspired by them that I even named my dog Monet after one of my favorite impressionists! \nREFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY \n

SUMMARY:10/2024 Beginning Watercolor with Alan Lewis
DESCRIPTION:Sundays\, 10am-12pm \nOctober 6\, 13\, 20\, 27th \n$120 ($100 Members) ($90 to skip beginners day) \nThe first day of the months’ session is for anyone who is just starting out or needs more guidance.
