DESCRIPTION:July 22 – 26th \n10am – 12pm \nGrades 1st – 8th \nPlants\, trees\, leaves\, vegetables\, fruits\, flowers\, birds\, bugs\, fish\, land\, water\, and clouds… It’s all nature! Here’s a few ideas of what I’d like to create with you: Shadow drawings of leaves and branches\, drawings of the inside of vegetables\, making a botanical illustration booklet\, painting a still-life of fruits on canvas\, drawing insects in pen and paint\, and making collage gardens… to mention a few! We’ll be using paints\, glue\, scissors\, and more. \nAll materials provided! \nI am an experienced K-12 art teacher of 28 years. I also substituted 12.5 years for art teachers K-12 in Pine Bush and Valley Central Schools\, plus 3 years teaching summer art classes at WRCA! Creating my own paintings and teaching art is a lifelong passion for me. Curious about the whole process of not only creating your own series but also writing your own backstory for your characters? Then you will love this fun\, engaging\, course! \nFirst\, we will brainstorm a character and write about the world they live in. Then\, we’ll draw a ‘model sheet’ of your character so we know exactly what they look like\, because you draw your characters a lot and you want them to look the same! We’ll go over what kinds of storytelling mediums are out there for you and your creations. This is a great course for future animators\, game designers\, and comic artists. \nAll materials will be provided! \nHello my name is Joe M Ryan.  I am a 2018 graduate of the Joe Kubert school.  I’ve always been interested in art\, ever since I was a kid.  For many years I was self taught until I attended a three year program at Joe Kubert.  After I graduated\, my art progressed to a professional level that won me many opportunities. I have worked doing caricatures for weddings and graduations and fundraisers.  Additionally I have worked alongside a team of small creators doing sketch cards for Both Rusty Ink and a publisher out west named Bianca Thompson and Horrendous Magazine in Tannersville PA as well as the Kickstarter Not So Fair Tales. DESCRIPTION:July 22 – 26th \n1:00-3:00 pm \nAges 10-15 \nLocation:  Wallkill River Center for the Arts Gallery \nCost: $135 per student \nCome join jewelry artist Janet Baskerville for a week long immersive and fun jewelry making class.  We will work with different mediums like alcohol inks\, mod podge\, metal washers\, scrabble tiles\, Shrinky dinks\, macramé\, memory wire\, air dry clay\, wire for wire wrapping and lots and logs of beads.  We will create one of a kind earrings\, bracelets\, necklaces and key chains.  So bring your awesome creativity and let’s have fun! \nAll materials will be provided! \nArtist Statement: My ethnic heritage and experiences are my greatest influences.  I enjoy working three dimensionally\, as it is an intuitive process.  Jewelry is my passion and I like the tactile nature of combining various methods of construction\, such as forging metal\, stamping and etching metal\, wire wrapping and weaving\, beading\, resin casting and the inclusion of relic-like found objects and artifacts. I enjoy mixed-media collage and use paint\, paper\, fabric\, fibers\, resin\, wood and clay in my work as well. SUMMARY:7/24/24 All-Medium Still Life Workshop with Alan Lewis
DESCRIPTION:July 24th \n6-8pm \n$50 per student \nStill life painting is a unique experience\, sign up and give it a try\, or continue your journey. All levels and mediums welcome.  Instructor shall work in watercolor. Each class shall consist of a short lesson\, followed by each participant working individually on the evening’s still life scene. Individual attention given along the way\, concluding with group critique. Inspired by the tradition started by school founder Shawn Dell Joyce. \n  \nAlan Lewis has been painting in watercolor since 2013\, and usually paints every day.  His subjects vary from portraits to pets to landscapes\, and he enjoys painting plein air whenever possible.  His paintings are looser and more impressionistic\, rather than highly detailed\, and he has been most significantly influenced by the watercolor master Alvaro Castagnet.  A member of the Wallkill River School\, Goshen Art League\, Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters\, and Northeast Watercolor\, he has also recently been awarded for art done with the Friends of the Great Swamp.\n\nStudents will bring their own supplies.\nMinimum 3 Students.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n    \n\n\nStudents will bring their own supplies. Brainstorm a comic to tell a short story! Through several days I will show you the entire process of taking a comic page from the thumbnail stage into a final full color finished comic illustration. The instructor’s main medium is oils but any painting medium is welcome in this class. \n  \nStudents are encouraged to follow their own stylistic inclinations while learning and practicing the basic rules of: drawing & painting techniques\, composition\, value\, color mixing\, color theory\, materials and supplies\, etc. \nSubject matter will range and include still life\, landscape\, portrait and figure. SUMMARY:08/2024 Beginning Watercolor with Alan Lewis
DESCRIPTION:Sundays\, 10am-12pm \nAugust 4\, 11\, 18\, 25 \n$120 ($100 Members) ($90 to skip beginners day) \nThe first day of the months’ session is for anyone who is just starting out or needs more guidance. I would recommend that you attend if you’re a first time student of this class! \n\nThis beginning watercolor class will be focused on producing finished work.  I have noticed that I have learned best when following along painting with an artist\, so that is the approach this class will follow. We will produce a finished painting each week with a different subject\, and returning students are welcomed.  The approach will be to paint fast and loose\, to cover the basics of watercolor by doing them\, and hopefully to have some fun. The first day is for beginners who need to learn the starting techniques and the materials.\n\nIn the event of wonderful weather\, this class may go outside to paint! Be sure to bring sunscreen\, a sunhat\, or other item to protect you and make you comfortable.\n\n\nAlan Lewis has been painting in watercolor since 2013\, and usually paints every day.  His subjects vary from portraits to pets to landscapes\, and he enjoys painting plein air whenever possible.  His paintings are looser and more impressionistic\, rather than highly detailed\, and he has been most significantly influenced by the watercolor master Alvaro Castagnet.  A member of the Wallkill River School\, Goshen Art League\, Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters\, and Northeast Watercolor\, he has also recently been awarded for art done with the Friends of the Great Swamp.\n\nStudents will bring their own supplies.\nMinimum 3 Students.\n    \n\n\n\nPaper- I would recommend Strathmore 300 (or better but a little more expensive 400) series\, cold press paper.\nBrushes – A beginner kit might have 1 #10 round\, one smaller brush for detail\, and one larger flat or map brush of about an inch. It is nice to have some different sizes\, but you don’t need expensive brushes to start.\nPaint – Avoid chalky mediums like Reeves. Tubes will be easier to work with than pans.\nPalette – A watercolor palette has many wells for your paint and space to mix colors.\nOther – Not really necessary in this class\, but will be useful at home- A hairdryer\, painters tape\, paper towels\, etc.\n\n\nREFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY

DESCRIPTION:August 5 – 9th \n10 am – 12 pm \nGrades 3rd – 7th \nLocation:  Wallkill River Center for the Arts Gallery \nCost: $135 per student \nIn printmaking\, students will make copies of an image that they have created from various sources of their choosing. They will then transfer the image and use carving or impressing the design in linoleum\, styrofoam\, or foam board and transfer the image on to new surface. Students will use ink or paint to transfer images. Student will create an Andy Warhol style print using two to three linoleum cuts positive and negative carvings using different colored inks when printing. \nBecause we’re working with ink\, it may stain! \nAll materials will be provided! \n  \n \nJodi Doster had been teaching science and art at Bristol Bay Borough Middle/High School in Nanek\, Alaska for 18 years .  She is also an Adjunct Professor for the University of Alaska Fairbanks where she teaches biology and art. Currently\, Jodi has retired to the Montgomery NY area to continue teaching art at a slower pace. DESCRIPTION:August 14th \n6-8pm \n$50 per student \nStill life painting is a unique experience\, sign up and give it a try\, or continue your journey. All levels and mediums welcome.  Instructor shall work in watercolor. Each class shall consist of a short lesson\, followed by each participant working individually on the evening’s still life scene. Individual attention given along the way\, concluding with group critique. Inspired by the tradition started by school founder Shawn Dell Joyce. \n  \nAlan Lewis has been painting in watercolor since 2013\, and usually paints every day.  His subjects vary from portraits to pets to landscapes\, and he enjoys painting plein air whenever possible.  His paintings are looser and more impressionistic\, rather than highly detailed\, and he has been most significantly influenced by the watercolor master Alvaro Castagnet.  A member of the Wallkill River School\, Goshen Art League\, Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters\, and Northeast Watercolor\, he has also recently been awarded for art done with the Friends of the Great Swamp.\n\nStudents will bring their own supplies.\nMinimum 3 Students.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n    \n\n\nStudents will bring their own supplies. DESCRIPTION:Wallkill River Center for the Arts (WRCA) will welcome photographer Alison Colby for an artist’s talk on Saturday\, August 17\, at 2PM. \n“Until I was approached by the gallery’s chief curator\, Billy Noonan\, I hadn’t seen my work outside of my phone\,” says Colby. “Billy helped me refine what an exhibit might look like—we discussed the number and size of images to show. He could see my vision and helped make it a reality. It was a revelation to see it on gallery walls.” \nColby’s solo exhibit #keepingitsecure\, currently on view at Wallkill River Center for the Arts through Sunday\, September 1\, has been a terrific success\, a crowd favorite. \n“We’ve had very positive responses to our two previous artists’ talks\,” says Sarah Fortner Pierson\, WRCA executive director. “It has been an enriching experience for the artists as well as the gallery visitors. Often\, art receptions can be busy\, noisy\, social events. They are a lot of fun. But sometimes they are not ideal for a focused engagement with the art. These artists talks offer a more intimate experience with the artist and their work.” \nAlison Colby’s photos have been on Instagram since 2014 (@sparkleshow). While the artist does take pictures of other things\, it is traffic cones that capture her eye. This exhibition shifts the viewer’s experience from the small screen to the gallery wall. \n“I’m new at all of this—and I look forward to sharing what moves me to stop and make a picture\, and what I am aiming for in a photo\,” Colby adds. “ At the artist’s talk\, I’ll be taking my cues from the exhibit’s visitors and will answer any questions they may have. I enjoy hearing about what people think is going on in my images. Everyone has a different story\, and I find them all thrilling. I like art to be fun\, and I look forward to exploring audience reaction in this casual and intimate setting with the folks at WRCA.” \nThe public is welcome free of charge. Donations are always gratefully accepted.\nThe artist will offer a show catalogue\, prints\, and a book for sale. \nAlison Colby\n#keepingitsecure \nPrevious artistic endeavors include “Aesthetic Technicians\,” a shared exhibition with visual artist Sas Colby at the The Space in Oakland\, CA (1980); “Losers Weepers\,” a public access cable call-in show celebrating found objects with Lizzy Yoder in NYC (1995-97) and the “Donkey Show\,” a collaboration with Robin Bordie featuring modified paintings at La Serena\, Mallorca\, Spain (2017). She has used her creative skills to resist the destruction of the East River Park\, participating in protests with East River Park Action. Most recently she participated in successful union actions for a fair contract at her job. Alison Colby has worked in magazine and newspaper production for over 40 years. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday August 27th (Rain Date August 28th) \n10am – 1pm \nat Iona Marsh/Bear Mt. State Park \n$50 per person\, $45 for members \nJoin me for a day of plein air painting\, all levels and abilities are invited. Artists are encouraged to work in any medium they are comfortable with. This class is not specifically about medium but rather about the concepts and techniques that are universal to Plein Air painting. \nBring your easel\, your painting supplies and a painting surface. Helpful to have a sketchbook\, paper and pencil. This will be a one day event so consider the size you will be working on. \nEach session will be 3 hours with a demo\, individual instruction and critique included. Please bring a snack\, water and a hat. \n \nI am drawn to landscapes\, capturing and preserving the views that have been seen over the years by so many. On location I work in pastels. I focus on that specific time of day. The time of day changes the light\, the color\, the atmosphere: it changes everything. Pastels afford me the use of pure pigment. The mark each pastel makes directly from my hand to the surface is exciting. In my studio I create with encaustic\, based on my Plein Air experiences. Working with molten wax and fire has energy and spontaneity. Whether in the studio or on site each painting is a challenge to record a moment in time. \nREFUND AND CANCEL
