Work must be framed and wired for hanging – there can be NO EXCEPTIONS and unframed work will not be accepted.  Work may be offered for sale; WRCA will collect a 30% commission on sales.   Reception Fri. She’s served as concertmaster of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s since 1983\, and has soloed with many orchestras including the symphonies of San Francisco and St. Louis and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. From 1999-2006 she was the music director of the New Century Chamber Orchestra\, and as a founding member of the Ridge Quartet she was nominated for a Grammy and the recipient of the Diapason d’Or Award for the quartet’s recording of Dvorak’s piano quintets with Rudolf Firkusny. “Her deep notes were rich and melancholy… there was a tender exuberance in both tumbles of notes and sustained phrases… a dramatic interplay of ferocity and light slyness.” – The New York Times\, May ‘14 \n  \nJessica Troy\, Violinist\, wears many freelance hats. Brooks Marcus (aka J Why) is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who studied jazz\, classical\, electronic and experimental music at California Institute of the Arts\, Berklee College of Music\, and San Francisco State University. \nHe has composed for film\, dance\, puppet theater and podcasts.  \nCollaborators have included theater director and playwright Theresa Chavez\, dance filmmaker Susan Osberg\, musician and composer Julz A\, dance filmmaker Anna Brady Nuse\, filmmaker Amir Bar-Lev\, and choreographer Sasha Welsh.  \nIn 2017 he formed the collaborative production duo Obsidian Soundsystem with musician and engineer Jonny Taylor. He is a member of 3rd Bell quartet combining jazz\, world\, and electronic music\, The David Sanford Big Band with the recently released “A Prayer for Lester Bowie”\, Neil Alexander’s X Ensemble a modern Chamber Jazz Octet and from 1988-2004 The New Century Saxophone Quartet.   \nIn May of 2024 Brad performed the World Premiere of his “Concerto for Baritone Saxophone and Concert Band.”  He has commissioned and premiered Benjamin Boone’s “Concerto for Baritone Saxophone and Orchestra” as well as pieces from Sherwood Shaffer\, Monica Ashton\, Mark Taylor and Michael Bellar and is also a composer and performer with Composers Concordance in New York City.  \nAs a sideman Brad has appeared with a broad range of artists including Corey Glover of Living Colour\, Nancy Wilson\, Pinetop Perkins\, Joe Lovano\, Lew Tabackin\, Lenny Pickett\, Boots Randolph\, Roy Clark\, The Monica Ashton Jazz Band among others.   \nBrad is currently the Woodwind Instructor at The Beacon Music Factory in Beacon NY\, where he lives with his family. \n  \nGwen Laster – violinist\, composer\, teaching artist.  Gwen Laster is a nationally acclaimed musician who has been the recipient of awards by the National Endowment for the Arts\, MPower Sphinx\, Jubilation Foundation\, Puffin Foundation\, Arts Mid-Hudson\, Lila Wallace\, and the Cognac Hennessey 1st place Jazz Search. She began her love for improvising and composing because of her parents’ love of jazz\, blues\, soul and classical music played endlessly on the record player and her progressive jazz music educators from Detroit’s public schools. Gwen Laster is many things: A virtuoso violinist with exquisite taste. An adventurous composer\, arranger and orchestrator. A classically trained artist with a deep appreciation for America’s musical history\, and a scholar of African- American musical heritage. A socially conscious activist and educator who understands the power of music to reach and touch everyday people. \nHer playing is poignant\, descriptive and always relevant. Perhaps that’s why she has recorded and performed with the world’s most influential artists. DESCRIPTION:Flamenco Music and Dance  \nSunday July 7\,  2024 – 3pm  \nBlooming Grove UCC\,  2 Old Dominion Road\, Blooming Grove\, NY  10914 \nAccessibility:  Accessible entrance on the west side of the building.  Bathrooms in the basement are accessible via wheelchair lift. \nTRIO ANDALUZ – FLAMENCO is comprised of the 3 accomplished artists presented today\, all trained in the rigorous study and practice of Flamenco Music and Dance.  These dynamic musicians and dancer have a rich history of working together in different ensembles and dance companies\,  celebrating the ancient art forms of the Iberian Peninsula.  There will be a Q & A after the show. \n  \nDaniel Pimentel began playing guitar at the age of 12 and later took lessons in Mexico and in Spain with prominent teachers such as Manolo Sanlúcar\, José Antonio Rodríguez\, Gerardo Núñez and Antonio Rey among others.  Throughout his career he has trained in musical styles such as jazz\, classical and Mexican music as well as the classic Flamenco style. \nHis work includes a Tribute to Federico García Lorca\, El Cristo Andaluz\, Bodas de Sangre and Gypsies in pursuit. Daniel has collaborated with Flamenco artists such as Lucero Hernández\, Natalia Loza\, Fernando Martínez\, Las Cabales de Guadalajara\, Leo and Juan Treviño\, Erika Suarez as well as the Flamenco Companies of María Elena Anaya\, El Club España\, Marién Luévano\, Natalia Loza and Caña y Candela among others. He also worked with artists in other musical genres such as Joe Lovano\, Judi Silvano\, Juan Gabriel\, María José and Paco de María. \nHe has performed all over Mexico\, Madrid and Toledo\, Spain\, Quito\, Ecuador as well as New York and Chicago.  Daniel has recorded and released 7 albums of music\, including “A mi Aire” (2010) and “Sentimiento Flamenco” (2017). \n  \nNatalia Loza dancer\, born in Mexico City\, graduated from the National Dance School\, completing her training with masters such as María Elena Anaya\, Gabriel Blanco\, Silvia Martín\, Paloma Macías\, Olinka Trueba\, among others. She was invited to be part of the teaching staff\, teaching Stylized Dance and Stage Practices to the students of the Spanish Dance Degree. \nDuring her training she studied Spanish dance and Flamenco with teachers including Guadalupe Gómez (first dancer at the Madrid Conservatory)\, Manuel Reyes\, Mariano Bernal\, Ángeles Gabaldón\, Daniel Doña and Ana Lopéz\, among others.  In 2012 she took bata de cola and shawl classes with teacher Milagros Menjibar at the famed Cristina Heeren Foundation in Seville\, Spain. \nNatalia is one of the most outstanding dancers with mastery of the castanet in both Mexico and the American continent and she has performed in the major theaters in Mexico such as Bellas Artes\, Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City\, Guadalajara\, Cancun\, Queretaro\, Puebla and Los Cabos. \n  \nAlfonso Cid\, Flamenco singer and flute player. His mother and grandfather were his earliest influences. He attended classes at the prestigious Torres-Macarena Flamenco social club in Seville starting in 1987.  \nAlfonso also studied solfege singing and flute at the Seville Music Conservatory and was awarded two scholarships to study at the Cristina Heeren Foundation for Flamenco Art in Seville\, Spain.  \nHe has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center Out of Doors\, Town Hall\, London’s Royal Albert Hall\, Sala Covarrubias in Mexico City.
