SUMMARY:Color My World: Watercolors by Ellen Joyce-Trayer
DESCRIPTION:Color My World: Watercolors by Ellen Joyce-Trayer \n  \nArtist Statement \nThese works are Experimental Watercolors which I’ve been working on this past decade. It is a form of deconstruction….breaking through edges and form to distort reality. The paint can be dripped\, splashed\, splattered\, glazed\, brushed or pulled on the paper surface. The paper is often manipulated to direct the flow of the paint. Since the results are not always in the artist’s control\, the artist must abandon control and be open to take creative detours as the painting reveals itself. \nUltimately\, it is about creating a successful painting which often means the artist must allow the painting and the paint to inform the final creation. \n  \n\nOn view October 31 – extended to December 28\, 2025\n \nGallery hours: Friday – Sunday\,  12 – 5 pm \n  \nImage: Ellen Joyce-Trayer\, Sunset in Africa\, watercolor on paper

SUMMARY:Rosemary Hanson: Home
DESCRIPTION:Rosemary Hanson: Home\n\n“Learning to look” is one of the most fundamental principles for any artist. Intentionally observing what otherwise might be missed in our everyday environment can yield a deeper appreciation when seen through artistic interpretation. It’s so easy to stop noticing the things closest to home because they have become so familiar. But if we stop and change perspective and focus on the little things in our lives\, we can discover beauty and value in what was before mundane. \nOn view September 5 – October 26\, 2025\nGallery hours: Friday – Sunday\,  1 – 5 pm \n\nArtist Reception: Saturday\, September 13\, 5 – 7 pm \nJoin us to celebrate the exhibition and meet the artist; small bites and light refreshment will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:INTERIORS
DESCRIPTION:INTERIORS\, A National Exhibition Juried by Wayne Lempka\, Art Collections Manager at The Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz\, on view September 5 – October 26\, 2025. \nParticipating artists: Richard Arnold\, Donna Faranda\, Carl Grauer\, Yona Gonen\, Lonna Kelly\, Pat MacDonald\, Karen Maloof\, Dan McCormack\, Emilia Moritz\, Mary-Anne Ramirez\, Steven Rushefsky\, Gerald Wein\, Anna West\, Amanda Wolf \nJUROR’S STATEMENT: \nTo understand this exhibition\, one must first contemplate the definition of the word “interiors”. \nOn a basic level this word refers to the spaces we live in\, a home that has rooms consisting of four walls\, windows and doors. If you ask a child to draw a room interior\, in most cases this is what you will get. However\, the meaning of ‘interiors’ is not an easy concept to isolate as it encompasses a broad sphere of emotional experiences\, sensory perceptions\, memories and feelings of nostalgia. \nThe works selected for this exhibition not only fulfill the basic idea of what an interior is but go beyond this concept due to how each artist approaches these spaces – as seen through unique interior or exterior vantage points. These works are not simply documents of what one holds dear in interior spaces but records a sense of life; a sense of being; and a sense of place. \nTaken as a whole\, this exhibition is meant to be a visual investigation into beauty\, personal narrative\, and memory. These paintings\, mixed media pieces\, and photographs provide one with a sense of humor\, power\, weakness\, and mystery. As a viewer\, you are asked to consider an entire range of visual and emotional experiences that room interiors invoke in each of us and then relate these experiences to one’s personal space. \n– Wayne Lempka \n  \nMeet the JUROR: Wayne Lempka is Art Collections Manager of the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at the State University of New York at New Paltz where he is responsible for the care of over 9\,000 objects in the museum’s permanent collection. He has also served as curator at The Dorsky for many exhibitions including Thoughts of Home\, which explored not only how our living environments reflect who we are but how artists use this idea in their creative expression. Prior to his position at The Dorsky\, Mr. Lempka held positions at Storm King Art Center\, the Museum of American Folk Art\, the Cooper-Hewitt National Museum of Design\, (Smithsonian Institute) the Chase Manhattan Bank Corporate Art Program\, The Historic New Orleans Collection and the Barrett Art Center. Mr. Lempka is currently a lecturer in the Department of Art History at Marist University. He has also taught in the Art History Department of SUNY New Paltz. Mr. Lempka holds a BFA degree in Fine Arts and Art History from Pratt Institute\, and a MA in Art History & Museum Studies from New York University. He is currently pursuing his PhD (ABD) at New York University.  \n\nOn view September 5 – October 26\, 2025\nGallery hours: Friday – Sunday\,  12 – 5 pm \n\nArtist Reception: Saturday\, September 13\, 5 – 7 pm\n\nJoin us to celebrate the exhibition and meet the artists; small bites and light refreshment will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:August 17th Artist Talk with Alison Colby
DESCRIPTION:Wallkill River Center for the Arts (WRCA) will welcome photographer Alison Colby for an artist’s talk on Saturday\, August 17\, at 2PM. \n“Until I was approached by the gallery’s chief curator\, Billy Noonan\, I hadn’t seen my work outside of my phone\,” says Colby. “Billy helped me refine what an exhibit might look like—we discussed the number and size of images to show. He could see my vision and helped make it a reality. It was a revelation to see it on gallery walls.” \nColby’s solo exhibit #keepingitsecure\, currently on view at Wallkill River Center for the Arts through Sunday\, September 1\, has been a terrific success\, a crowd favorite. \n“We’ve had very positive responses to our two previous artists’ talks\,” says Sarah Fortner Pierson\, WRCA executive director. “It has been an enriching experience for the artists as well as the gallery visitors. Often\, art receptions can be busy\, noisy\, social events. They are a lot of fun. But sometimes they are not ideal for a focused engagement with the art. These artists talks offer a more intimate experience with the artist and their work.” \nAlison Colby’s photos have been on Instagram since 2014 (@sparkleshow). While the artist does take pictures of other things\, it is traffic cones that capture her eye. This exhibition shifts the viewer’s experience from the small screen to the gallery wall. \n“I’m new at all of this—and I look forward to sharing what moves me to stop and make a picture\, and what I am aiming for in a photo\,” Colby adds. “ At the artist’s talk\, I’ll be taking my cues from the exhibit’s visitors and will answer any questions they may have. I enjoy hearing about what people think is going on in my images. Everyone has a different story\, and I find them all thrilling. I like art to be fun\, and I look forward to exploring audience reaction in this casual and intimate setting with the folks at WRCA.” \nThe public is welcome free of charge. Donations are always gratefully accepted.\nThe artist will offer a show catalogue\, prints\, and a book for sale. \nAlison Colby\n#keepingitsecure \nPrevious artistic endeavors include “Aesthetic Technicians\,” a shared exhibition with visual artist Sas Colby at the The Space in Oakland\, CA (1980); “Losers Weepers\,” a public access cable call-in show celebrating found objects with Lizzy Yoder in NYC (1995-97) and the “Donkey Show\,” a collaboration with Robin Bordie featuring modified paintings at La Serena\, Mallorca\, Spain (2017). She has used her creative skills to resist the destruction of the East River Park\, participating in protests with East River Park Action. Most recently she participated in successful union actions for a fair contract at her job. Alison Colby has worked in magazine and newspaper production for over 40 years. She has lived in the East Village (NYC) since 1981. \nArtist’s Talk\nFree Saturday\, August 17\, 2024\, at 2 PM \nWallkill River Center for the Arts\n232 Ward Street (17K corner of Factory St)\nMontgomery NY\nwww.wallkill.art \nPhone: 845-457-ARTS\nEmail: info@wallkill.art\nGallery hours:\nFriday – Sunday\, 12:00 – 5:00 PM
