SUMMARY:John McGiff: Painting as Vision
DESCRIPTION:John McGiff: Painting as Vision\nNovember 14 – December 20\, 2026 \n  \nI make images to help map the terrain of the journey I find myself on and figurative narratives are my chosen stage. \nI am naturally inclined towards making series of paintings that are bound by a central narrative idea that often stems from an old story. A reoccurring theme in my work is about the individual journey from innocence to loss to redemption. This is a culturally charged tale and by retelling some of the Greek myths\, I benefit from working with archetypal narratives that are capable of shifting in their focus and\, therefore\, quite elastic in the vision that they imply. \nWhat\, for example\, would Icarus do if he had landed differently and had a second chance at building a life? If Acteon was made to fall asleep by Diana’s pool\, a prelude to his prescribed fate\, what parade of figures would haunt and tantalize his dreams? How did the abduction of Persephone by Hades inform her adulthood and rebirth? This emphasis on one’s ability to transform experience in positive ways is the alchemy I seek from my painting practice \nThe figure is central to the compositions I make in the studio\, as is color and the thrill of moving through pictorial space. I am as interested in humor and grace\, as I am in the dramatics of the narrative\, for the goal is to bring new ways of thinking about how we open up vistas for ourselves as we mark these passages we are on. \n– John McGiff \n  \nLEARN MORE | About the Artist\, John McGiff \n  \nOPENING RECEPTION\nSaturday\, November 14\, 3 – 5 pm \nPlease join us to meet the artist and view the works; light refreshments will be served. \n  \nThe WRCA galleries and art reception are always free and open to the public. \nGallery hours: Friday – Sunday\, 12 – 5 pm \n  \nImage: John McGiff\, Kore and Her Posse Flower Picking\, 48 x48 in.\, gouache on canvas\, 2023

SUMMARY:Leslie Bender: Path of Jewels
DESCRIPTION:Leslie Bender: Path of Jewels\nNovember 14 – December 20\, 2026 \n\n“My painting traces my search for consciousness from the darkest shadows to my emerging light.\nbegun 40 years ago\, my search for connection has led me to Love.”  – Leslie Bender\n\n\n  \nLeslie Bender began her societal and cultural obligations as an artist in 1975\, earning a Bachelors in Fine Art from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. After graduating\, she worked with the Brooklyn Arts Council on mural projects in elementary schools and was subsequently hired as a C.E.T.A. mural painter in New Jersey in 1978. After 2 years\, she joined CityArts Workshop in NYC and painted community murals until 1985.  Ms. Bender joined other politically motivated artists\, and the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Downtown in Manhattan exhibited her political prints. \nCurrently\, Bender creates paintings\, drawings and prints in her loft studio in Kingston\, NY\, while exhibiting extensively in the Hudson Valley. She arrived in the Catskill Mountains in 1986\, joining with the Woodstock School of Art. There\, she contributed her printmaking expertise to the fledgling printmaking shop. In 1995\, Bender got a degree in scenic painting for theater\, and created many sets for regional theater and dance companies. In 2008\, she earned an MFA in printmaking from SUNY New Paltz. A 2019 mystical experience aroused 5-dimensional luminosity into an oeuvre of artwork long devoted to the search for Self within the darkness of subconsciousness. \nIn 2024\, Bender’s long held fascination with orchestra musicians was fulfilled with a grant from Arts Mid- Hudson. For a year\, she drew and painted the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra\, and in 2025 had a one-woman exhibit of her art at the Ritz in Newburgh\, NY. \n\n\nLearm more about the artist\, Leslie Bender \n  \nOPENING RECEPTION\nSaturday\, November 14\, 3 – 5 pm \nPlease join us to meet the artist and view the works; light refreshments will be served. \n  \nThe WRCA galleries and art reception are always free and open to the public. \nGallery hours: Friday – Sunday\, 12 – 5 pm \n  \nImage: Leslie Bender\, Beach Scene with Mentaur\, mixed media on paper\, 23 x 23 in.
