SUMMARY:Theresa Gooby: Uncanny Garden
DESCRIPTION:Theresa Gooby: Uncanny Garden explores themes of growth\, transformation\, mystery\, identity and absurdity. In this series of works on paper\, nature and the human connection to the natural world are forefront. These figures in this show challenge the dominant narrative of identity\, allowing elements of the natural world to embody representations of the self. Long held beliefs of traditional propriety are directly at odds with the unstoppable creep of nature. At the same time\, nature is being propelled by the invisible hand of civilization. The characters in Uncanny Garden wink at the viewer\, but Absurdity should not be mistaken for folly. We are living in a time that asks us to accept highly preposterous situations as the norm and we will all have to figure out a way to exist between the two. \n\nTheresa Gooby holds a BFA from the Univ. of New Mexico and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She is the recipient of a 2024 Individual Artist Commission from the NY Statewide Community Regrant Program. In 2020 she received a Dutchess County Executive Award for Artivist of the Year. Among the places her work has been shown are the Samuel L. Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz NY\, the Woskob Family Gallery State College PA\, the Puffin Foundation of Teaneck NJ\, and Metro Pictures in NYC. She is the founder and former Director of Beacon Open Studios. Theresa grew up in California and lives in Beacon NY with her family. \n  \nTheresa Gooby: Uncanny Garden | on view July 11 – August 31\, 2025\nGallery hours: Friday – Sunday\, 12 – 5 pm and by appointment \nReception and Meet the Artist | Saturday\, July 12 from 5 – 7 pm\nLight refreshments will be served. SUMMARY:André Junget: Drawings
DESCRIPTION:André Junget: Drawings \nPen and ink is my favorite medium. The idea of creating value with an ink line has always fascinated me. In my view\, nothing else compares to it. Beginning with first seeing the wood engravings of Gustave Doré\, then the British and American book illustrators of the Golden Age of Illustration\, I was hooked! \nI began my career illustrating architecture and products in pen and ink. Working at architecture firms brought me into pencil work. Which I love\, but it’s not ink! I have always claimed that if I could work in one medium for the rest of my life\, it would be pen and ink. \nSo\, I decided to stop talking about it and started a new collection of ink on scratchboard drawings of subjects that excite me! Many of the pieces in this exhibition are from this new collection. \n– André Junget \n  \nAbout the artist: \nAndré Junget: Fine Art drawings\, hand-pulled stone lithographs\, and scratch board works. \nAndré Junget maintains a residence and studio in Beacon\, NY. His work has been featured in numerous books\, magazines\, and other publications and is included in the collections of many interior design and architectural firms. His work offers a rare glimpse into the captivating world of hand-drawn illustration – what he refers to as “the way it used to be.” \nA classic illustrator\, he is a traditionalist with a “twist\,” his work is modern but gives a nod to the past\, reminiscent of great masters including Franklin Booth\, Herbert Railton\, Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue\, William Heath Robinson\, Robert Henri\, and the Ashcan School. \nSelf-taught\, André began his career as a tool and die maker in the Space and Aircraft industry. He later went on to teach perspective at the Institute for the Study of Classical Architecture and has served as illustrator-in-residence at prestigious architectural firms\, including Ferguson and Shamamian\, Hart Howerton\, Roman and Williams\, and GRADE\, NY. \nHis work has been honored with Awards of Excellence from the American Society of Architectural Illustrators\, and was elected to the Society of Illustrators through the support and sponsorship of world-renowned illustrator and educator Murray Tinkelman. In 2017\, Andre was elected into the International Society of Scratchboard Artists and the Pastel Society of America in 2019. \nAndre has begun building a portfolio of fine art prints with Jim Reed\, Master Printmaker at the prestigious Milestone Graphics Studio in Bridgeport\, CT\, creating hand-pulled stone lithograph prints. He continues his work in printmaking with Irene Michnicki at the new Milestone Graphics Studio in New Haven. His hand-pulled stone lithograph print “Fire Escape 1” resides in the permanent collection of the Slater Memorial Museum and Print Club of Albany. \n\nAndré Junget: Drawings | on view July 11 – August 31\, 2025\nGallery hours: Friday – Sunday\, 1 – 5 pm and by appointment \nReception and Meet the Artist | Saturday\, July 12 from 5 – 7 pm\nLight refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public. \n  \nImage: Look Up\, 526 7th Ave\, NYC

SUMMARY:CONCERT | Steve Gorn: Music for the Healing of Mind & Body
DESCRIPTION:Wallkill River Center for the Arts is pleased to present STEVE GORN: MUSIC FOR THE HEALING OF MIND & BODY as part of our 2025 music series. \n  \nFar more than entertainment\, music is a portal for mind-body synchronization; a conduit for engagement in ritual\, group catharsis\, entertainment and a holder of mythology and history.  Steve Gorn explores The Transformative Power of Music in words and live performance. Drawing on Indian classical music this will be an offering of music for healing of the mind\, body\, and soul. \nSteve plays Bansuri Bamboo Flute and will be joined for this special collaborative concert by Naren Budhakar playing tabla percussion\, dancer Savia Berger\, and a special surprise Guest. \n  \nSunday\, August 17\, 3 – 5 pm\nWRCA Galleries at The Patchett House\n232 Ward Street\, Montgomery\, NY \n  \nThis event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $20/person. Registration – at bottom of event page –  is requested but not required.  \n_____ \n\n\n\nAbout the performers:\n\n\nSteve Gorn plays Indian Classical Music and new American Music on the bansuri bamboo flute in concerts and festivals throughout the world. His gurus are the late bansuri master\, Sri Gour Goswami\, of Kolkata\, and Pandit Raghunath Seth of Mumbai\, who he has often accompanied in concert. He has also studied with the late Ustad Z. M. Dagar. \nDuring the past decade Steve has often performed in India\, appearing at Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal\, Triveni Hall in New Delhi\, The Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata\, NCPA\, and The Nehru Center in Mumbai\, and numerous other venues. His performance with Pandit Ravi Shankar’s disciple\, Barun Kumar Pal\, at Kolkata’s Rama Krishna Mission\, was televised throughout India. In the New York area\, he often performs with Pandit Samir Chatterjee as well as the Darbari Ensemble with sitarist\, Allyn Miner and the sarangi master\, Ramesh Misra. \nSri Gour Goswami introduced Steve to the vocal (gayaki) style of bansuri that was first introduced by the legendary flutist\, Padmabhusan Pannalal Ghosh. As a disciple of this illustrious gharana\, the heart of Steve’s playing reflects an attention to meer and gamak and an ‘old world’ rendering of raga which unfolds timelessly and with attention to the rasa\, or color of each note and melodic contour. \nSince 1996\, Steve has continued his study under the illustrious bansuri master\, Pandit Raghunath Seth\, of Mumbai. Raghunathji’s compositions in numerous ragas\, and his performance style are now a prominent feature of Steve’s performances. \n\n  \nNaren Budhakar was born and brought up in the Indian classical music tradition. He began performing Tabla at a young age. A disciple of Tabla Maestro Ustad Shabbir Nisar\, Naren has played with prominent instrumentalists\, vocalists and dancers including Pandit Birju Maharaj\, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan\, Pandit Jasraj and Shaed Parvez. Naren is co-director of the East-West School of Music at Ananda Ashram and as a faculty member teaches and performs regularly. \n  \n  \nSavia Berger is a dancer\, actor\, choreographer and teacher based in the Catskills where she began her career with Catskill Ballet Theater. Her dance credits include Feld Ballets\, NY\, Eglevsky Ballet\, Basel Ballet (Switzerland)\, Les Danse Donsk (choreographer Mark Allen Davis) and many other independent choreographers. She was featured as an actor in Kismet and performed as a dancer in Brigadoon with the New York City Opera. She went on to study voice and acting and became a member of the original Broadway workshop of Fosse (Director Chet Walker) for a year. \nHer credits as a choreographer and improvisational dancer include Cy Tombly Dreamhouse\, a multi-media evening directed by Marilyn Crispell; collaborations with Peter and Peter (Peter Einhorn\, Peter Wetzler) and dancers; and can be seen improvising with Creative Music Studio’s (founders Karl Berger\, Ingrid Sertso\, Ornette Coleman) Creative Improvisors Orchestra every month in Kingston\, NY. \nSavia has also appeared in industrial shows and on film. She is a second generation classical Pilates instructor certified by Romana Kryzanowska and ran her own Dance and Pilates Studio in New Jersey for 8 years. She is happy to be dancing and teaching back in New York. \n\n  \nWRCA’s 2025 concert series has been made possible thanks to the support of: \n \n\n \nWallkill River Center for the Arts programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
