To reserve your seat\, register by purchasing a FREE ticket – at bottom of event page. \n  \n_______________ \n\n\nAbout the performers:\n  \nNEIL “NAIL” ALEXANDER \nProlific master pianist\, synthesist\, keyboardist and composer Neil “Nail” Alexander has had a career spanning more than 4 decades. \nHe remains passionately involved in multiple performance and production projects – including NAIL\, Cloudburst\, Mr. Gone\, X Ensemble\, Supercluster – across multiple genres – including jazz\, rock\, funk\, blues\, electronica\, ambient and contemporary chamber music. Neil has toured worldwide across the US\, Mexico\, Canada and Europe. \nNeil has been involved with Modern Dance Choreographers for 40 years\, teaches master classes in electronic music production and heads the Ableton Hudson Valley User Group. In 2015 Neil was awarded Individual Artist of the Year by the Orange County Arts Council and is endorsed by Moog Music. \nHe has worked with The Mahavishnu Project\, Rez Abasi\, Judi Silvano\, Gunter Hampel\, Joe Lovano\, Marty Balin\, Corey Glover\, and more. \nRecent recordings include “Check Your Vibration”(Nail Jung)\, “Solos/Duos/Trios”(Neil Alexander)\, a solo piano performance of the “Rite of Spring”(2013)\, and NAIL Live at the Blue Note\, NYC. \n  \nCRAIG CHIN \nERRANT SPACE – AMBIENT SOUNDSCAPES is a project of composer/recordist Craig Chin. Its goal is spatio-temporal dilation through sound. Performances are site-specific\, spontaneous compositions influenced by both the physical characteristics of the space they are performed in and the occupants of that space. \nCraig creates soundscapes that are simultaneously unobtrusive and interesting\, creating an atmosphere where the environment and audience are enveloped in a sort of subliminal soundscape. \nBrian Eno coined the term Ambient Music in the 1970’s\, defining it as music that “must be able to accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting.” This is the essence of the Errant Space philosophy. \nCraig produces the monthly Errant Space Podcast featuring experimental and electronic musicians and curates several music series\, including a monthly electronic and experimental night and the Space Out\, Outside series. He also has a weekly radio show\, The Space Program\, on Vassar College’s Station WVKR. \n  \n  \nADAM HOLQUIST \nONEWAYNESS – podcast focused on the arts\, politics\, and current events – is Adam Holquist\, a composer\, musician\, sound designer\, and multimedia creator from Erie\, Pennsylvania. \nHe uses guitars\, pianos\, analog and digital synthesis\, spoken word and field recordings\, and a variety of hardware and software tools to create atmospheric and textural music which draws influence from a variety of sources. \nSince 2011\, he has given hundreds of live performances and released over 40 albums and EP’s. His work has been featured on both terrestrial and streaming radio stations\, charted on Zone Music Reporter’s weekly Top 100 ambient music airplay charts\, and reviewed by publications in the US and abroad. \nAdam has created original music and sound design for theatre\, independent films\, art installations and also serves as curator of the ElectroFLUX Experimental Music Series\, presenting creative music from local to international artists. \n  \n\n\n_______________ \n  \nWRCA’s 2026 concert series has been made possible thanks to the following: \n  \n \n  \n \n \n \n \n \nWallkill River Center for the Arts programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

Currently\, due to the intimate nature of concert location and limited seating\, advance registration for seating is NOW FULL.   \nStanding room will be available day of the concert and is on a first-come\, first served basis. \n_____ \n\n\n\nAbout the performers:\n  \nJoe Lovano \nGrammy-winning saxophonist\, composer and producer Joe Lovano is fearless in finding new modes of artistic expression. With a Grammy Win for his 52nd Street Themes and 14 other nominations\, he has won DownBeat Magazine’s Critics and Readers Polls countless times as Tenor Saxophonist\, Musician of the Year\, Jazz Album of the Year and Triple Crowns from DownBeat. He has also received numerous awards from Jazz Times and the Jazz Journalists Association for Tenor Saxophone\, Album of the Year and Musician of the Year. \n  \nBorn in Cleveland\, Ohio on December 29\, 1952 he attended the famed Berklee College of Music in Boston where years later he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate. Since 2001 he has held the Gary Burton Chair in Jazz Performance and is a founding faculty member since 2009 of the Global Jazz Institute at Berklee directed by Danilo Pérez. He is a guest lecturer at New York University’s Jazz Program\, Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music as well as Clinician at Universities around the globe. \n  \nFrom 1991 through 2016\, Lovano released an unprecedented 25 records as a leader for the historic Blue Note Records. Joe Lovano Quartet: Classic! Live at Newport featuring Hank Jones was recorded in 2005 and released in 2016 to critical acclaim. In 2019\, Lovano released his debut album as a bandleader on ECM Records\, Trio Tapestry\, with Marilyn Crispell and Carmen Castaldi. Over the next few years\, Lovano saw the release of three additional ECM Records albums: ROMA\, a collaboration with Enrico Rava; Arctic Riff\, a special guest appearance with the Marcin Wasilewski Trio; and the sophomore release from Lovano’s Trio Tapestry\, Garden of Expression. In 2021\, Lovano released Other Worlds\, his third album with Sound Prints\, a quintet he co-leads with trumpeter Dave Douglas. The next year brought a collaboration with guitarist Jakob Bro\, Once Around the Room: A Tribute to Paul Motian. In 2023\, Lovano released his third Trio Tapestry recording entitled\, Our Daily Bread. Most recently\, Lovano released Homage\, a follow-up recording with the Marcin Wasilewski Trio. \n  \nIn addition\, composer Mark Anthony Turnage wrote a Concerto for Saxophone and Chamber Orchestra for Joe called “A Man Descending” which has been performed globally and Maestro Michael Abene orchestrated an album of all-Lovano originals called Symphonica for the WDR Symphonic Orchestra and Big Band\, which was released on Blue Note and received a Grammy nomination. \n  \nJoe has performed and recorded with a long list of jazz greats including Woody Herman\, Dr. Lonnie Smith\, Mel Lewis\, Bob Brookmeyer\, Paul Motian\, Bill Frisell\, Tony Bennett\, Abbey Lincoln\, Charlie Haden\, John Scofield\, Gunther Schuller\, Elvin Jones\, McCoy Tyner\, Ed Blackwell\, Herbie Hancock\, Dave Holland\, Hank Jones\, Dave Liebman\, Michael Brecker\, Dave Douglas\, Judi Silvano\, Ravi Coltrane\, Chucho Valdés\, Ornette Coleman\, Diana Krall\, and many others. Joe has created an extensive body of work for his own ensembles including strings\, woodwinds\, his horn-rich Nonet\, the Classic Quartet\, Trio Tapestry\, and more. \n  \nJoe Lovano continues to explore new horizons within the world of music as a soloist\, bandleader and composer. \n\n\n  \nDavid Rothenberg  \nMusician and philosopher David Rothenberg wrote Why Birds Sing\, Bug Music\, Survival of the Beautiful and many other books\, published in at least eleven languages. He has more than forty recordings out\, including One Dark Night I Left My Silent House which came out on ECM\, and more recently Just Leave It All Behind and Lost Steps. He has performed or recorded with Pauline Oliveros\, Peter Gabriel\, Ray Phiri\, Suzanne Vega\, Scanner\, Elliott Sharp\, Umru\, Iva Bittová\, and the Karnataka College of Percussion. In 2024 he won a Grammy Award as part of For the Birds\, in the category of Best Boxed Set. Whale Music and Secret Sounds of Ponds are his latest books. Nightingales In Berlin and Eastern Anthems are his latest films. His piece Eleven Paths to Animal Music premiered at the Sammlung Hoffmann in Berlin in 2025. Rothenberg is Distinguished Professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. \n  \nMichael Bisio  \nBassist / composer Michael Bisio has been called a poet\, a wonder and one of the most virtuosic and imaginative performers on the double bass.  \n“The physicality of Mr. Bisio’s bass playing puts him in touch with numerous predecessors in the avante garde\, but his expressive touch is distinctive.”   The New York Times                 \nWith over a hundred fifty recordings in his discography\, more than two dozen as leader or co-leader as well as a dozen documenting his extraordinary association with piano icon Matthew Shipp\, Michael continues to grow and live in the tradition – The tradition is to move the tradition forward. \n  \n___________ \nAbout the concert location:   \nThe Westinghouse Estate – Join us for the first concert of our 2026 Season at the historic mansion built in 1929 by the Westinghouse family on 14 acres in the rolling hills of Goshen NY.   In the mid-1970’s the property was purchased by the famous Gabor sisters where they created a Health Spa.  It is presently being renovated as a Bed and Breakfast and Event Space in this historic Hudson Valley town.  \n\n  \nWRCA’s 2026 concert series has been made possible thanks to the support of (as of 1/30/26): \n \n  \n \n \n \n \nWallkill River Center for the Arts programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

DESCRIPTION:Color My World: Watercolors by Ellen Joyce-Trayer \n  \nArtist Statement \nThese works are Experimental Watercolors which I’ve been working on this past decade. It is a form of deconstruction….breaking through edges and form to distort reality. The paint can be dripped\, splashed\, splattered\, glazed\, brushed or pulled on the paper surface. The paper is often manipulated to direct the flow of the paint. This collection of watercolors explores the shifting thresholds where earth meets sky and light merges with shadow\, inviting stillness and contemplation. \n  \nAbout the Artist\nBetsy Jacaruso\, a painter based in Rhinebeck\, New York\, is recognized for her luminous watercolor landscapes. Using wet-on-wet technique and bold color\, she distills a feeling beyond representation\, capturing the essence of nature through mood and light. DESCRIPTION:Wallkill River Center for the Arts is pleased to present the THUNDERBIRD AMERICAN INDIAN DANCERS as part of our 2025 music series. \n\nThe Thunderbird American Indian Dancers are the oldest resident Native American dance company in New York. The troupe was founded in 1963 by a group of ten Native American men and women\, all New Yorkers\, who were descended from Mohawk\, Hopi\, Winnebago and San Blas tribes. Some were in school at the time; all were “first generation\,” meaning that their parents had been born on reservations. They founded the troupe to keep alive the traditions\, songs and dances they had learned from their parents\, and added to their repertoire from other Native Americans living in New York and some who were passing through. Within three or four years\, they were traveling throughout the continental U.S.\, expanding and sharing their repertoire and gleaning new dances on the reservations. (A number of Thunderbird members are winners of Fancy Dance contests held on reservations\, where the standard of competition is unmistakably high.) \nSaturday\, September 6\, 5 – 7 pm\nThe Barn at Goshen Green Farm\n3301 NY Route 207\, Goshen\, NY \n  \nThis event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $20/person. Reserve you spot today! \n_____ \n\n\n\nAbout the performers:\n\n\nMembers of the Thunderbirds range in professions from teachers to hospital patient advocates\, tree surgeons and computer engineers who share a commitment to raising scholarships for young American Indian students.  Over the years\, Thunderbird works\, activities and events have assisted more than 400 students. Original members included: Louis Mofsie\, Josephine Mofsie Tarrant\, Muriel Miguel\, Gloria Miguel\, Marguarite\, Jonathan Williams and others. Swift Eagle from the Santo Domingo Pueblo and others taught the group Native American Indian culture\, dances\, songs passing down information that would have otherwise been lost. \n\nAn Important History: Preserving Native Culture Traditions \nThunderbird American Indian Dancers\, officially incorporated in 1963\, tracing its roots further back\, to a group of teenagers called the Little Eagles.  From the beginning\, keenly aware of the great diversity of tribal groups living in and around the metropolitan area — each with a very distinct cultural background — its members were determined to learn and preserve the songs and dances of their own tribes\, then to branch out and include other tribes.  Their teachers were their fathers\, mothers\, aunts\, uncles\, and cousins. Since its formation\, Louis Mofsie and the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers have visited and performed in almost all fifty states\, where they have learned from a wide variety of Indian peoples. The Thunderbirds pledged to help preserve and perpetuate the culture and traditions of the American Indian people through their songs and dances\, and their ceremonies wherever possible\, and to bring before the general public a more realistic picture and greater understanding of the American Indian people through dance performances\, lectures\, pow wows and workshops.  In fulfilling this pledge\, the Thunderbirds have shared performances and workshops in venues including: The New York World’s Fair\, Lincoln Center\, Museum of Natural History\, Heye Foundation\, Barnard College\, and The National Museum of the American Indian among others.  They have also toured throughout the United States and in Canada\, Israel and Japan. \n  \n\n  \nWRCA’s 2025 concert series has been made possible thanks to the support of: \n \n \n\n

If you ask a child to draw a room interior\, in most cases this is what you will get. However\, the meaning of ‘interiors’ is not an easy concept to isolate as it encompasses a broad sphere of emotional experiences\, sensory perceptions\, memories and feelings of nostalgia. \nThe works selected for this exhibition not only fulfill the basic idea of what an interior is but go beyond this concept due to how each artist approaches these spaces – as seen through unique interior or exterior vantage points. These works are not simply documents of what one holds dear in interior spaces but records a sense of life; a sense of being; and a sense of place. \nTaken as a whole\, this exhibition is meant to be a visual investigation into beauty\, personal narrative\, and memory. These paintings\, mixed media pieces\, and photographs provide one with a sense of humor\, power\, weakness\, and mystery. As a viewer\, you are asked to consider an entire range of visual and emotional experiences that room interiors invoke in each of us and then relate these experiences to one’s personal space. \n– Wayne Lempka \n  \nMeet the JUROR: Wayne Lempka is Art Collections Manager of the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at the State University of New York at New Paltz where he is responsible for the care of over 9\,000 objects in the museum’s permanent collection. He has also served as curator at The Dorsky for many exhibitions including Thoughts of Home\, which explored not only how our living environments reflect who we are but how artists use this idea in their creative expression. Prior to his position at The Dorsky\, Mr. Lempka held positions at Storm King Art Center\, the Museum of American Folk Art\, the Cooper-Hewitt National Museum of Design\, (Smithsonian Institute) the Chase Manhattan Bank Corporate Art Program\, The Historic New Orleans Collection and the Barrett Art Center. Mr. Lempka is currently a lecturer in the Department of Art History at Marist University. He has also taught in the Art History Department of SUNY New Paltz. Mr. Lempka holds a BFA degree in Fine Arts and Art History from Pratt Institute\, and a MA in Art History & Museum Studies from New York University. DESCRIPTION:Wallkill River Center for the Arts (WRCA) is pleased to welcome Theresa Gooby and André Junget for a Gallery Talk on Saturday\, August 23 at 2 pm. \nJunget and Gooby are currently exhibiting as solo artists at the WRCA galleries in exhibitions which showcase the art of drawing. \nWRCA curator and painting instructor\, Billy Noonan explains\, “These two artists could not be more different; Andre’s work is precise elegant meticulously crafted monochromatic imagery while Theresa Gooby offers us whimsical fantastical imaginings in color that reference fashion with a nostalgic flare.” \nUrsula Morgan\, WRCA Executive Director will moderate a meeting of the minds of these two featured artists\, as they discuss their work\, their process\, specific pieces in the show\, as well as entertain questions from attendees. \nThe public is invited to arrive early and enjoy the exhibit by each of these artists along with the accompanying group show titled DRAWING. \nNoonan relates\, “The group exhibition features the works of 13 artists and showcases the art of drawing in an array of contrasting expressions. Drawing on Indian classical music this will be an offering of music for healing of the mind\, body\, and soul. \nSteve plays Bansuri Bamboo Flute and will be joined for this special collaborative concert by Naren Budhakar playing tabla percussion\, dancer Savia Berger\, and a special surprise Guest. \n  \nSunday\, August 17\, 3 – 5 pm\nWRCA Galleries at The Patchett House\n232 Ward Street\, Montgomery\, NY \n  \nThis event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $20/person. Registration – at bottom of event page –  is requested but not required.  \n_____ \n\n\n\nAbout the performers:\n\n\nSteve Gorn plays Indian Classical Music and new American Music on the bansuri bamboo flute in concerts and festivals throughout the world. His gurus are the late bansuri master\, Sri Gour Goswami\, of Kolkata\, and Pandit Raghunath Seth of Mumbai\, who he has often accompanied in concert. He has also studied with the late Ustad Z. M. Dagar. \nDuring the past decade Steve has often performed in India\, appearing at Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal\, Triveni Hall in New Delhi\, The Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata\, NCPA\, and The Nehru Center in Mumbai\, and numerous other venues. His performance with Pandit Ravi Shankar’s disciple\, Barun Kumar Pal\, at Kolkata’s Rama Krishna Mission\, was televised throughout India. In the New York area\, he often performs with Pandit Samir Chatterjee as well as the Darbari Ensemble with sitarist\, Allyn Miner and the sarangi master\, Ramesh Misra. \nSri Gour Goswami introduced Steve to the vocal (gayaki) style of bansuri that was first introduced by the legendary flutist\, Padmabhusan Pannalal Ghosh. As a disciple of this illustrious gharana\, the heart of Steve’s playing reflects an attention to meer and gamak and an ‘old world’ rendering of raga which unfolds timelessly and with attention to the rasa\, or color of each note and melodic contour. \nSince 1996\, Steve has continued his study under the illustrious bansuri master\, Pandit Raghunath Seth\, of Mumbai. Raghunathji’s compositions in numerous ragas\, and his performance style are now a prominent feature of Steve’s performances. \n\n  \nNaren Budhakar was born and brought up in the Indian classical music tradition. He began performing Tabla at a young age. A disciple of Tabla Maestro Ustad Shabbir Nisar\, Naren has played with prominent instrumentalists\, vocalists and dancers including Pandit Birju Maharaj\, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan\, Pandit Jasraj and Shaed Parvez. Naren is co-director of the East-West School of Music at Ananda Ashram and as a faculty member teaches and performs regularly. \n  \n  \nSavia Berger is a dancer\, actor\, choreographer and teacher based in the Catskills where she began her career with Catskill Ballet Theater. Her dance credits include Feld Ballets\, NY\, Eglevsky Ballet\, Basel Ballet (Switzerland)\, Les Danse Donsk (choreographer Mark Allen Davis) and many other independent choreographers. She was featured as an actor in Kismet and performed as a dancer in Brigadoon with the New York City Opera. She went on to study voice and acting and became a member of the original Broadway workshop of Fosse (Director Chet Walker) for a year. \nHer credits as a choreographer and improvisational dancer include Cy Tombly Dreamhouse\, a multi-media evening directed by Marilyn Crispell; collaborations with Peter and Peter (Peter Einhorn\, Peter Wetzler) and dancers; and can be seen improvising with Creative Music Studio’s (founders Karl Berger\, Ingrid Sertso\, Ornette Coleman) Creative Improvisors Orchestra every month in Kingston\, NY. \nSavia has also appeared in industrial shows and on film. She is a second generation classical Pilates instructor certified by Romana Kryzanowska and ran her own Dance and Pilates Studio in New Jersey for 8 years. He has performed with Joe Lovano\, Dave Liebman\, Fred Hersch\, Kurt Rosenwinkle\, Joseph Jarman\, Yusef Lateef\, and many others. \nMichel has been a longtime member of WORKS\, Go Organic Orchestra\, Gentile-Romano\, Wildebeest Wind Quintet. He also leads FLOW\, Michel Gentile Quartet and Michel Gentile Trio. \nHis release with the collaborative ensemble WORKS was named one of the “best albums of 2013” by Downbeat. Let’s unpack your questions about how to further your career! \n  \nThis event is free and open to the public with donations to support arts programming encouraged. \n  \n\n  \nAbout Elizabeth Keithline | Artist and arts administrator Elizabeth Keithline’s work focuses on human self-extension and human systems of all kinds – architecture\, technology\, cars\, the modern built environment – particularly as those systems tie to the natural world. \nShe has shown widely in the United States including solo shows at ChaShaMa NYC\, Governors Island NY\, the Peabody Essex Museum\, the Danforth Museum\, the Newport Art Museum\, Jane Street Art Center\, the Waiting Room in New Orleans\, Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio\, ArtPrize Grand Rapids\, Real Art Ways in Hartford\, and UMass Amherst. Her work has been well reviewed in the New York Times\, Sculpture Magazine\, Hyperallergic\, the Boston Globe\, Fiberarts\, and others. \nDoing business as Wheel Arts Administration\, Keithline has connected artists to opportunities through the following: \nShe has curated exhibitions for Mark Miller Gallery\, SPRING/BREAK Art Show\, Boxo Projects NY\, Mobius Boston\, and Wheaton College. From 2008–2021\, she was the RI State Council On the Arts Percent for Art Director; the Project Grants to Organizations Director; and from 2014 to 2021\, the State Cultural Facilities Grants Director\, managing a budget of $45 million. DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibit of portraits by Carl Grauer.  On View: December 20\, 2024 – January 26\, 2025.  Gallery hours:  Friday\, Saturday and Sundays 12:00-5:00 pm  Reception:  Saturday\, January 11\, 2025 3:00-5:00 pm.  Receptions are always free and open to the public. \nStatement and Bio \nCarl Grauer is a painter based in Poughkeepsie\, NY in the beautiful Hudson Valley. He explores the construction of identity\, and how to memorialize objects and individuals through a contemporary documentarian approach to painting. He focuses on the documentation of time\, memory\, and imagination and how he may occupy the past\, present\, and future through these aspects. He is interested in the observation of that evolution of time and how it affects the artifice of the presentation of self\, and finally\, how by creating a painting\, the art acquires an identity and timeline of its own. \nBorn in rural Kansas\, Carl Grauer was raised in a town of 700 people and a graduating class of sixteen. He had a great aptitude of studies as well as art from a very young age but with a limited exposure to the arts. Following high school graduation he left to complete his degrees in human biology and his MFA from the University of Kansas and the University of Michigan\, respectively. Eventually moving to New York City he found solace in the arts and culture in abundance. He spent two years in London studying figurative and portrait painting with several studios and garnered success showing work internationally\, including exhibiting with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London\, being shortlisted for the 2015 Wells Art Contemporary Award in the UK. Carl Grauer is a painter based in Poughkeepsie\, NY in the beautiful Hudson Valley. \n

The show titled LOVE LETTERS will feature work produced with funds from a 2024 Individual Artist grant. \n“How do you write a love letter in American Ink? is an intentionally fraught question— but it’s also the one we’re faced with\,” states Argenta. \nThe artist continues\, “The works presented here aren’t an answer to the question – they’re an attempt at asking. They’re a way of using multiple art forms as a way toward that asking. Works here were born in dialogue with community voices\, as well as historical\, literary\, and often banned or unrequited “lovers”. \n“In many parts of the world\, calligraphy is the highest art. Calligraphic forms & traditions are “love letters” in the deepest sense. In this series\, I seek to bend my own vantage point\, hand\, and English with brush\, reed\, sentiment\, and the use of empty space.” \nArgenta is a world-traveled artist\, whose vast experiences and adventures include apprenticeships in Arabic Calligraphy with Elinor Aishah Holland in NY and Ahmet Bursali in Istanbul. Her visual work has been privately and commercially commissioned internationally as well as in the US. Her Kimono designs walked the red carpet at the Fez Music Festival in Morocco. \n“We are so pleased to be able to provide gallery space for Jena to bring this unique and deeply felt work to the public. It comes to us\nin increments\, starting with several works on display during our regularly scheduled artists’ reception on November 9th and culminating in additional works and an artist’s talk (on) December 15th” says Sarah Fortner Pierson\, WRCA executive director. \n\nThis project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program\, a program of the New York Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:A group exhibit of small works by Wallkill River Center for the Arts Artist Level Members.  All works are 8×10 inches (image area) or smaller and comprise a diverse array of media and artistic philosophies.  For this exhibit\, we will allow art work sold from the exhibit to be taken at the time of purchase since we are in the holiday shopping season. \nThe exhibit is on view November 1\, 2024 – December 15\, 2024 \nThe gallery is open to the public Fridays\, Saturdays\, and Sundays from 12:00-5:00 pm or by appointment. \nArtists Reception Saturday\, November 9\, 2024 3-5:00 pm. Receptions are always free and open to the public.
