Using a limited palette\, students will learn how to simplify the vast landscape and capture the important aspects of a scene to create a successful plein air painting. Make sure you drink water and seek shade on hot days. \n  \nNancy Reed Jones is an award winning artist ( Champion of the Arts award from the Orange County Arts Council) as well as several other awards. She studied oil painting at the Huntington Arts Council on Long Island. Nancy had her own mural business for many years and has painted murals in one of the Vanderbilt homes on Long Island. Nancy painted murals for the cancer patients in hospitals on Long Island where they were used for guided imagery to take away the patients pain.\nShe came to live in the Hudson Valley in 2004 and joined the Wallkill River School of Art where she now teaches acrylic workshops and plein air painting. SUMMARY:05/2025 Beginning Watercolor with Alan Lewis
DESCRIPTION:(Last Class this Instructor will have) \nSundays\, 10am-12pm \nMay 4\, 11\, 18\, 25th \n$120 ($100 Members) ($90 to skip beginners day) \nThe first day of the months’ session is for anyone who is just starting out or needs more guidance. I would recommend that you attend if you’re a first time student of this class! \n\nThis beginning watercolor class will be focused on producing finished work.  I have noticed that I have learned best when following along painting with an artist\, so that is the approach this class will follow. We will produce a finished painting each week with a different subject\, and returning students are welcomed.  The approach will be to paint fast and loose\, to cover the basics of watercolor by doing them\, and hopefully to have some fun. The first day is for beginners who need to learn the starting techniques and the materials.\n\nIn the event of wonderful weather\, this class may go outside to paint! Be sure to bring sunscreen\, a sunhat\, or other item to protect you and make you comfortable.\n\n\nAlan Lewis has been painting in watercolor since 2013\, and usually paints every day.  His subjects vary from portraits to pets to landscapes\, and he enjoys painting plein air whenever possible.  His paintings are looser and more impressionistic\, rather than highly detailed\, and he has been most significantly influenced by the watercolor master Alvaro Castagnet.  A member of the Wallkill River School\, Goshen Art League\, Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters\, and Northeast Watercolor\, he has also recently been awarded for art done with the Friends of the Great Swamp.\n\nStudents will bring their own supplies.\nMinimum 3 Students.\n    \n\n\n\nPaper- I would recommend Strathmore 300 (or better but a little more expensive 400) series\, cold press paper.\nBrushes – A beginner kit might have 1 #10 round\, one smaller brush for detail\, and one larger flat or map brush of about an inch. It is nice to have some different sizes\, but you don’t need expensive brushes to start.\nPaint – Avoid chalky mediums like Reeves. Tubes will be easier to work with than pans.\nPalette – A watercolor palette has many wells for your paint and space to mix colors.\nOther – Not really necessary in this class\, but will be useful at home- A hairdryer\, painters tape\, paper towels\, etc.\n\n\nREFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY

(Rick Rubin) \nImmerse yourself in a meditation and movement experience and sketch the beautiful landscape at Orange County Arboretum. By walking\, breathwork\, meditation\, and some standing Yoga and Qi Gong movements\, participants will enjoy the health benefits from these practices along with the enjoyment of sketching outdoors through basic instruction and guidance. \nNo experience is necessary. Participants can purchase an art kit or bring their own. Wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat and bring sunscreen\, bug protection and water. Bring a totebag or backpack for carrying supplies. DESCRIPTION:May 3\, 10\, 17th \nSaturday mornings at 9:30-12pm \n$90\, $80 for Members \nLive In Person – Painting with William Noonan \nFor beginner\, intermediate and advanced students. This course is conducted live in the classroom. The instructor’s main medium is oils but any painting medium is welcome in this class. \n  \nStudents are encouraged to follow their own stylistic inclinations while learning and practicing the basic rules of: drawing & painting techniques\, composition\, value\, color mixing\, color theory\, materials and supplies\, etc. \nSubject matter will range and include still life\, landscape\, portrait and figure. Whenever feasible students will work from life\, other times photographic references may be used.  Students may also use this class as an independent-study opportunity and work on their own personal projects. \nAll sessions will be live work sessions. DESCRIPTION:April 12th & 19th \n10am – 12pm \nAll Materials Included \n$80\, $70 Members \nMixed media will use a variety of techniques and mediums to create unique pieces of art. Students will learn the elements and principles of design to put together pieces of art that will include collage\, drawing\, and painting with various mediums. Different mediums will include drawing materials\, acrylic\, watercolor\, ink\, and tempera paint. Students will learn techniques to incorporate oil pastels\, color pencils\, markers\, and drawing pencils into mixed media pieces. Class will include creating a mixed media painting on canvas. Utilizing painted papers using painting and gelli printing. These papers will be used as accents collage on their canvas and other pieces of mixed media drawings\, painting or journal pages. \nClass is for adults. Minimum 3 students. \n \nJodi Doster had been teaching science and art at Bristol Bay Borough Middle/High School in Nanek\, Alaska for 18 years .  She is also an Adjunct Professor for the University of Alaska Fairbanks where she teaches biology and art. Currently\, Jodi has retired to the Montgomery NY area to continue teaching art at a slower pace. Her art is exhibited internationally\, collected by individuals and corporations. DESCRIPTION:February 1\, 8\, 15th \nSaturday mornings at 9:30-12pm \n$120\, $105 for Members \nLive In Person – Painting with William Noonan \nFor beginner\, intermediate and advanced students. This course is conducted live in the classroom. The instructor’s main medium is oils but any painting medium is welcome in this class. \n  \nStudents are encouraged to follow their own stylistic inclinations while learning and practicing the basic rules of: drawing & painting techniques\, composition\, value\, color mixing\, color theory\, materials and supplies\, etc. \nSubject matter will range and include still life\, landscape\, portrait and figure. Whenever feasible students will work from life\, other times photographic references may be used.  Students may also use this class as an independent-study opportunity and work on their own personal projects. \nAll sessions will be live work sessions. A lecture or demo may be included based on the particular subject matter for that month’s focus. \nCritiques will be used throughout the session with one final critique on the last day of the class. \nIn the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances the class will be held via Zoom in order to keep the schedule on track. \nNOTE: Masks are not required for vaccinated students\, but masks and 6 foot social distancing is required for unvaccinated students. \n  \nMaterials List \n  \nREFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY
