SUMMARY:Kids Pottery and Ceramics: Handbuilding with Jodi Doster
DESCRIPTION:Monday – Friday\, Aug 3 – 7 \n10:00 am – 12:00 pm \nGrades 3rd – 7th \nLocation:  Wallkill River Center for the Arts \nCost: $135 per student \nThis handbuilding ceramics class introduces students to three core techniques: pinch pots\, coiling\, and slab construction. \nParticipants will work with a mid-range white cone 5/6 clay\, which will be oxidation fired in an electric kiln. Students will create both functional items—such as cups\, plates\, jars\, and vases—and nonfunctional pieces including critter pots. Decorative finishing methods\, including carving\, sculpting\, and sprig slabs\, will be taught\, along with final decoration using underglaze. \nAll completed works will be fired in the instructor’s kiln\, then clear glazed. Finished pieces may be collected at the art center upon completion. Please note that pickup timing may vary depending on kiln load requirements and the duration of bisque and glaze firing cycles. \nJodi Doster has been teaching science and art 18 years at Bristol Bay Borough Middle/High School in Nanek\, Alaska.  She is also an Adjunct Professor for the University of Alaska Fairbanks where she teaches biology and art. \nPlease note\, Jodi will be bringing her service dog Monet to class. \n  \nSummer Art for Kids Scholarship Form \nREFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY

DESCRIPTION:August 17 – 21\, 2026 \n10am – 12pm \nAges 8 – 14 \nLocation:  Benedict Farm Park Pavilion \nCost: $135 per student \nRun around before the day gets hot with Nerf Camp! Darts and Blasters will be provided\, but you’re free to bring your own if they take standard darts. Compete in an array of games to build cooperation skills and coordination.  Lots of group games assisted by Nerf Camp grads who come back to volunteer. \nWater will be provided\, but please bring beverages and a snack.  Be sure to wear sunscreen and bug spray if desired.  Eye protection will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring your own goggles or sunglasses. \n  \n \nThe rest of the year Matt Donaldson is a K-12 Phys.
