By using vintage materials and techniques plus new materials and methods I strive to create a connection between the past and present. I use needles and threads to create art related to strength and endurance with underlying socio/political commentary. Hand stitching is considered a feminine pursuit. History tells us that women who felt the need to express their voices often found an outlet for their thoughts, needs and concerns in the tradition of creative needlework. My pieces evolve organically. I begin stitching an initial conceptual image or idea and use the actual hand work time to contemplate past and current experiences. These thoughts render inspirations that are included as the work progresses. Multi-dimensional imagery and symbolism invite the viewer’s personal interpretation.
I am a Maker and work in many mediums. As a young girl my first creative pursuit found voice with textiles. As the years went on I began working with paints and papers, progressing from realism to abstraction. My work has been exhibited in art galleries throughout the Hudson Valley and sold online.
