Frank Shuback: Current Works

Artist Statement:  Art is the visual expression of the artist’s sense of life.  Sometimes I see it and then work on it.  Other times I just work on it and then see it.  I rely mainly on found objects made of wood, metal, plastic and glass and incorporate them in my sculptures.  I acquire most of my material from garage sales and antique shops in the area.  I work for clarity and precision, yet the work must finally be mysterious and unusual.  It must express structure, order, the marks of overall controlling intelligence, yet it must be alive, free, spontaneous.  The ruled edge and the improvised, accidental line, together and harmonizing.

William Martin: Squirreled Away Moments – Taking Breaks from Pandemic Life in Tucked Away Places

Artist Statement: Some themes in art emerge to be recognized after the fact.  Not having set out with any reason more than a love of making art with many of these paintings, I was obliged to visit with them again and to look and listen for a common theme.
What emerged was a series of vivid memories of the circumstances of each painting. Time sitting happily under the eaves of a barn chatting with new found friends, sheltered from the rain and painting. Or time spent alone on the fog shrouded grounds of an ashram, smiling in childlike glee at the fun of trying to capture the fleeting mist. Each painting a memory of  the building sense of relief and joy and raw emotional nerves, deadened by the isolation of pandemic, beginning to revive.
Each act of making art a balm and a respite. Healing found in places at the edges of the new
normal of Pandemic life. Beautiful squirreled away places we need only to park the car, turn off the phone and visit with to feel renewed. My hope is that some of the peacefulness I found in making these paintings rubs off on those who spend time visiting with my work.
Group exhibit juried by William Martin
Described by the International Association of Jazz Record Collectors as “rooted in the traditions of Tal Farlow, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, Johnny Smith and Joe Pass”, Walt Bibinger began performing professionally at the age of 12. Today, Walt is busy with freelance session work having appeared on numerous CDs by artists of all musical genres.

“Bibinger is a musical alchemist who snares his listeners in a skein of gold- tinged music with it’s own inner fire and passion.  He plays with melodic intensity”  Todd Dawson The Express Times

“Bibinger improvises with refreshing spirit and a feel for the daring, which is especially evident during the medley: “Wally’s Waltz/Still Waters”.  His playing takes off from the theme in full demonstration of ambitious ,creative play. His elegant touch produces music that flows along a natural course with an occasional spurt into white waters,…a pleasing event!”   Frank Rubolino Cadence Magazine

“Walt Bibinger’s tasteful single-note lines, chord and octave work, maintain a strong sense of melody and sensitivity that remind me of Wes Montgomery. Beautiful.”   David Henry Jazz Guitar Online

“Walt Bibinger brought a jazz vibe to the River Stage, playing complicated riffs, creating a beat and a lead at the same time.Incredible!”   –soundpress.net
